We’re deeply concerned by the appearance of a conflict of interest in Jaylen’s case.

One of the killer’s parents is a high-ranking executive at the law enforcement technology company Axon.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office does millions in business with Axon—in fact, they’re reliant on Axon’s technology to keep their office functioning.

How do we know this wasn’t a factor in Mitchell’s decision to let Jaylen’s killer walk free? What policies are in place to prevent such bias, and were those policies followed in Jaylen’s case? She hasn’t given us any answers.

In cases like this, a jury becomes even more critical. They exist, in part, to act as a third party. To review complex cases and make a final judgement call.

We urge Rachel Mitchell to address this appearance of a conflict of interest immediately. Let a jury review the evidence.

Yesterday, Rena, Brian, and Jaylen’s little brothers were invited to speak at a flag-raising ceremony hosted by the Donor Network of Arizona, as part of Donate Life Month. It took place at Chandler Regional Medical Center, the hospital where Jaylen was transported and where many incredible people made every effort to save his life.

Our loss was another family’s gain—three, in fact. Three people are alive today because of Jaylen’s selfless decision to donate his organs. Even in death, he continues to change lives. He lives on in us, his family, and he lives on in them.

Rena put into words Jaylen’s spirit in a way only a mother could. We know he was by her side, as he is every day. We continue to be so proud of the person Jaylen was and everything he accomplished. Few make an impact of this magnitude 💙

The killer’s family and their defense attorneys have tried very hard to frame Jaylen as a violent, aggressive thug.

This is a message one of Jaylen’s nurses sent to his mom shortly after he died.

“He was calm and quiet. He was polite.”

Jaylen remained polite even as he was dying. He was lying there alone, afraid and in pain, and he still treated the nurses with respect.

Jaylen was kind. He had a big heart, and he cared about people. We’ll continue to speak this truth to the world and tear down the lies that have been told. We’re getting closer to justice every day.

Thank you to the incredible hospital team that stayed by Jaylen's side and worked so hard to try and keep him here with us. We will never forget you 💙

After stabbing Jaylen in the chest and back multiple times, the teen that killed him claimed self-defense.

In a Snapchat conversation on the morning of November 16, he allegedly told a friend that he was “scared there may have been video surveillance of the incident.”

Why would he be “scared” there may be video of what happened that night?

Tomorrow we will be representing Jaylen at the State Capitol for the 3rd annual Justice Reform Advocacy Day.

We look forward to supporting and strategizing with other advocates, families, and organizations doing important work to make Arizona safer and the legal system more equitable for everyone.

We know Jaylen will be with us, as he is every day. We continue this fight knowing he is guiding us and sending us strength and courage. 💙

[NEW STORY] Jaylen was unarmed and stabbed once in the chest and three times in the back during an altercation that lasted minutes.

In a statement containing troubling inconsistencies and contradictions, the teen that killed him claimed self-defense.

When pressed about her decision not to file charges, Rachel Mitchell hid behind Arizona's controversial self-defense laws. She acted as if the decision not to move forward was out of her hands.

Why, then, did she allow a grand jury to decide one of the cases in this news segment? Why would she deny Jaylen the same opportunity—a CHILD who was violently killed?

All cases of juvenile homicide should automatically be reviewed by a jury, self-defense claim or not. Especially in cases of extreme violence such as Jaylen's. And especially when detectives find evidence of second degree murder.

Our family is demanding accountability. You should too. Experts concluded the facts supported second-degree murder, yet justice was denied.

The self-defense claim used to excuse Jaylen’s death is weak and fabricated. We also believe the excuses and lack of action from Rachel Mitchell’s office reflect a failure to serve justice for a child. Jaylen’s life mattered, and he deserves more than silence and excuses.

We will continue to speak out, for Jaylen and for the truth.
