Some folks could really use a sense of humor.

After some Haredi media went into convulsions over a supermarket prank, Shtetl scratched the surface and discovered it was all just Mo Gelber having a chuckle.

You want to read this one to the end.

Prankster Mo Gelber entered an obscenity at a self-checkout kiosk at Monsey’s Evergreen supermarket. Not everyone found it funny

Another great piece from Shtetl. Proud to have worked on this with Chananya Groner, who did a masterful job.

In some ways, a tale as old as the history of shuls.

Yoseph Needelman-Ruiz has written movingly about this place, about his family's involvement here, including his parents (and forces of nature) America Ruiz and Martin Needleman, and all the others who've loved this place for decades. Laura Friedenberg has been involved here as well.

On the other hand are those who appear to be doing good things in the world, such as Marcos Masri and his organization JC YES, but, as you'll see, things get complicated.

Have a read and enjoy. And as the kids say: smash that thumbs-up thingie, but not so hard so that you hurt yourself.

The One Thing I Know -- And I Can Teach It To You

I am the most unlikely writer. English is not my native language. I’ve had little formal education -- never attended a proper high school, and I have exactly zero college degrees.

So how did I write an award-winning memoir that has been critically acclaimed not only for the power for its story but also for the writing quality?

The answer is: I spent years and years studying writing craft, and those years paid off.

I am an expert on very few things, but the one thing I know is writing. In particular, first-person narrative non-fiction. Otherwise known as memoir.
