Orange County, New York held its September 11th Patriot Day ceremony at the Orange County Arboretum at Thomas Bull Memorial Park on Tuesday. Honor guards from the Orange County Sheriff's Office, New York guided the procession along the Remembrance Walkway flanked into the ceremony. Legislator Jim O’Donnell served as the keynote speaker at the ceremony. O’Donnell worked for the State Police from 1974 to 1997, retiring with the rank of Lt. Col. He went on to serve as the Chief of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department and was on duty during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. We will never forget.

Goshen Food Pantry

Started in June of 1999, the Community Dinner at St. James’ began as a program to help feed those who could use a free meal and companionship, at the end of each month when funds may be low, and people find it hard to keep food on the table.

The FREE Dinners are open to Goshen residents and are held the last Saturday of each month, with dinner being served from 5:30pm-6:30pm at St. James’ Episcopal Church,1 St. James Place, Goshen, N.Y.

Our goal is to provide nourishment and to strengthen the bonds of community, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Our dinners are hosted by various community groups whose aim is to foster caring of community in our area. Come for a free meal and meet your neighbors.

We strive to include all community groups and individuals who wish to be part of this effort. We believe that, by working together as a community on common goals, we can do amazing things in Goshen.

For information about how your group, or you as an individual, can volunteer or get involved in the Free Community Dinners at St. James’ effort, please email [email protected] or call John Strobl at 845-294-9004.

We get asked all of the time what we need or accept. While there are times we need certain things more than others and we hope to be able to keep you updated on this, a general rule of thumb when you are shopping for us is as follows:
*Non-Perishable - we do not have the ability to store things that may go bad quickly.
*Please no opened products or expired products (everything has an expiration date on it
*We accept most any food product, however, we usually have good supplies of soup, pasta, and canned beans (such as kidney, etc) so its good to concentrate on other things.
*Paper goods such as paper towels and toilet paper are often overlooked but much-needed
*Hygiene products are great (i.e. toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap, etc.)
*Don't forget the pets - pet food of all kinds is great
*We generally do NOT need baby products
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT!!!!

The specific location of the water main break has finally been identified and repair work is underway. While most residences have water back, the Department of Health will most likely not lift the boil water advisory until Monday so the standard testing protocol for water breaks like this can be followed. There will be bottled water available at the Village of Goshen Department of Public Works until 8:00 pm tonight and again from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm on Saturday. Once the state of emergency is officially lifted we will notify people on this page and through a phone call with our notification system.

Looking for something to do tonight? Something different? Something fun? Something involving talented teens? Come to 223 Main St., Goshen Music Hall and watch 5 talented teens put on a show after only 1 week of intense but fun rehearsal at the critically acclaimed Cornerstone Theatre Arts Teen Workshop. I just sat through their first of 2 dress rehearsals and I was blown away at the level of professionalism and stage presence they have. If anyone has a teen that may be interested next year, here is an opportunity to see up front what it is all about. Great practice if your teen is interested in theatre or Odyssey of the Mind. 7 pm tonight only.

Anticipation building for 2017 Orange County Freedom Fest Fireworks show on July 15th

Free show set for next Saturday at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Montgomery

Goshen, N.Y. - Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus reminds residents that the County’s 2017 Freedom Fest fireworks show will be held on Saturday, July 15th at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Montgomery.

Gates will open at 3 p.m. and the fireworks begin at dusk. Residents can purchase food and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) from vendors throughout the evening.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, Sheriff Carl E. DuBois and County Clerk Annie Rabbitt will join Neuhaus at the popular event, which will include a special salute to all veterans in attendance. Approximately 5,000 spectators attended last year’s Freedom Fest.

“Freedom Fest provides a wonderful opportunity for the entire community to come together to celebrate,” Neuhaus said. “It is also a great way to honor our veterans. We have received incredible feedback about this family-friendly show and are looking forward to hosting this event on July 15th.”

Orange County has partnered with the Committee for the Families of War Veterans to bring the show to residents. The Committee for the Families of War Veterans is a non-partisan, 501c3 not-for-profit organization that was founded in 2007 to raise funds for returning veterans, current soldiers as well as soldiers wounded in combat and their families.

The Black Dirt Bandits from Pine Island will headline the entertainment at the event. They opened for the legendary Charlie Daniels Band at The Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill last month. Their five-track album, Extended Play, debuted last October on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and GooglePlay.

Popular local bands The Manaklin Brothers and the New York Swing Exchange will also perform at Freedom Fest.

“We are definitely looking forward to playing Freedom Fest again,” said Robby Valentine, lead singer of the Black Dirt Bandits. “Freedom Fest brings the community together and is a great way to celebrate America. We appreciate the opportunity to play the event and can’t wait to rock the stage.”

Vendor spaces (10x10) are available. For more information or to reserve a spot, contact Barbara Allen at [email protected].
