Was out cleaning up limbs from the storm and found a new friend instead. She showed up with a chain collar but nothing on it — no tag, no name, nothing. No idea if she wandered off during the storm or if someone used the chaos as cover to drop her off, but either way somebody’s probably missing her. If you recognize her or know anyone around here who lost a dog, send this her way.

This ever happen to you? Just trying to do some yardwork and suddenly — yellowjacket in your sock. Then another. Then two dozen more. We have a solution. (Please practice fire safety, this is a joke, mostly.)

Update on the rosemary — thank you all so much for the advice and for checking in, it means a lot. I dug a drainage ring around both plants, about 2-3 inches out and 5-6 inches deep, and filled it back in with potting soil to help pull water away from the roots. Hoping this gives them a fighting chance. Will let you know how it goes.

Not the post I wanted to make today — two of my new rosemary plants are browning fast and I could really use some local know-how here. Anyone dealt with this before? Drop advice in the comments, trying to save these before it’s too late.

Garden reset, part 2 — tiller time
Started by cutting a limb off the maple so the plants underneath actually get some light, then broke out the tiller (had to do the “vwoom vwoom” — you know how it is). Finished up by hammering in some stakes for the next round of planting. Sped this one up so you get the satisfying part without the full runtime.

The big reveal! This is a maypop — growing wild right here on the property. It’s named for the popping sound the ripe fruit makes when you step on it. Here’s a fun one: the fruit grows directly from the flower and is technically the o***y. Bees can’t get enough of these blooms. Follow the page — I’ll be sharing harvesting tips when they’re ready to pick in a few weeks. Anyone else have these growing near you?
