The coolest thing about Joan Jett was never the haircut.
It was the confidence behind it.
In the ’80s, that black s**g, the kohl eyeliner, and the leather became instantly recognizable—but none of it would have mattered without the fearless attitude that came with it. She had already helped shake up rock with The Runaways, and when the Blackhearts took off, it felt like she was proving that doing things your own way could outlast every trend.
That’s why her music still feels so alive today. “Cherry Bomb” had the spark. “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” lit the fuse. And everything that followed reminded fans that authenticity has a way of echoing across generations.
Some artists inspire you to listen to more music. Joan Jett inspires you to be a little bolder, turn the volume up, and stop worrying about what everyone else thinks.
Who introduced you to Joan Jett’s music, or did you discover her all on your own?
