There’s a lot of angst about how the new NSF/ANSI/CAN 61-219/CAN 600-2019 standard for water tank linings will impact those who are in the potable water business.
As crude oil production has increased in North America, more oil has been shipped by rail over longer distances to refineries and processors. This increased hauling need combined with a variety of other factors has created new implications for lining rail tank car interiors. The author will outline....

In this article, the authors will briefly review the composition of concrete and why we use coatings to protect it. The discussion will include a description of some of the characteristics that make concrete difficult to coat and protect, and explain how properly applied coatings function to protect concrete.

The "Journal of Record" for the protective and marine coatings market, and the official journal of SSPC, the Society for Protective Coatings. The Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings is focused on the technology, specification, and application of protective and marine coatings. JPCL has been a fundamental benefit for all SSPC members since 1984.
Each month, JPCL delivers reliable, unbiased information on new technology and good practice in the use of high performance anti-corrosion coatings and linings for steel and concrete structures - bridges, ships, oil and gas facilities, offshore platforms, power generation facilities, water storage and treatment, wastewater treatment, pipelines, railcars, and every type of industrial plant.
Harold Hower, Ph.D., an educator and editor in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, founded Technology Publishing Company in 1984, the publisher of JPCL. The publication is focused on good practice in the selection and use of protective and marine coatings for corrosion control.
The proprietary journal was created to advance the interests of the Steel Structures Painting Council (SSPC), a non-profit technical society connected to Carnegie-Mellon University.
From the beginning, the SSPC has always held a prominent position on our board of directors─ and to this day, SSPC retains an interest on our board. Within three years of the journal’s launch, the society had grown from 200 to 5000 members and had changed its name to SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings. A subscription to JPCL became a valued member benefit, and the journal was adopted by the industry as the society’s definitive voice.
