On this momentous occasion, we celebrated the achievements of Hounds, JY.Originals, and Swishh Dreams, honoring their vision that transformed “The Jungle” into a living symbol of the lasting connection between jazz, basketball, and Pittsburgh’s resilient community spirit. The Jungle 🏀🌴

4 years ago, Hounds set out to revitalize a historic basketball court in the heart of the Northside. We aimed to tell a story that represented Pittsburgh’s jazz history & honoring “The Jungle” on Arch Street. Our journey began with a proposal to JY.Originals, the visionary behind Pittsburgh’s first “artistic basketball court.” We then partnered with Swishh Dreams, who brought their expertise in renovation.

In 2023, an opportunity arose through the nationwide ‘Every Court Has A Story,’ led by Project Backboard, Five-Star Basketball, Local Hoops, and Langston Galloway Foundation. With a story that we’d crafted for years, Clay McCloskey, Cole McCloskey, Jordan Armstrong, & Nathan Osche got to work. Featuring a moving narration written & voiced by Diarra Imani & a skillful “solo” by H'enri Wade-Chatman, we gained over 16,000 votes. “A Northside Solo” united Pittsburgh for a huge community win. A playlist celebrating PGH’s jazz history & the artists inspired by it was also created by Mars Jackson.

As we assisted on the renovation by Janel Young, Swishh Dreams & Project Backboard, we saw the joy and gratitude of many through smiles & stories. “The Jungle” holds a special place in our basketball culture, & its renewal was deeply felt.

Our efforts lead to “The Jungle Celebration Day” on August 3rd, proclaimed by The City of Pittsburgh. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors, talent, donors, and volunteers, whose support & dedication were key to the event’s success. We also thank pvkvsv & Inez for bringing the energy!

Finally, “The Jungle Classic,” debuted. A nod to the past with a 5-on-5 high school tournament, with the great help of Basketball Dreamz.

Initially, the project was titled “A Northside Solo,”. With everyone’s support and contributions, it’s now “A Northside Ensemble”.

“The Jungle Celebration” is a beautiful example of how community can come together to breathe new life into a space rich in history.

Join us at 12:00 pm on August 3rd for the unveiling of a mural by Janel Young , which reflects the essence of jazz, the intensity of the jungle, and the spirit of basketball, a flawless renovation, led by Swishh Dreams & Project Backboard, and a revitalization by Hounds, who delivered a story & full production that brought Pittsburgh together.

Featuring opening emcee Diarra Imani, who will bring this story full circle, and our event host Inez, infusing the energy and excitement The Jungle is known for!

Following the court unveiling, the highly anticipated “The Jungle Classic” high school basketball tournament, presented by Mike Dixon @ Basketball Dreamz, will tip off at 1:30 pm.

We’re excited to feature delicious offerings from , Badamo’s Pizza, PGH Dumplingz, and Wise County Biscuits & Cafe

A screen-printing station will be set up by AIR: Artists Image Resource, featuring artwork by Janel Young.

We’ll have curated music by the one and only pvkvsv, who will keep you movin’ & groovin’ all day!

We also want to thank , Five-Star Basketball, Local Hoops, Langston Galloway Foundation, Ljiggy, & Pancho for making this court renovation possible.
