Last December I took my son to NYC for his 16th birthday. We did all the touristy things and ate all the food and walked miles & miles. On our last day I told him that we’re stopping by the 9/11 Memorial. He wasn’t excited by any means but he also didn’t complain. When we arrived off the subway stop, I don’t think it’s what he imagined it would be. He was completely silent. Reverent. Overwhelmed. Maybe even a little sad. It really hit him seeing the names etched in the memorial. Hundreds and hundreds of names. He walked around both basins entirely.

If you ever have the chance to take your kids to NYC, consider making this one of your priorities. It’s hard to explain to your children what that day was like — how there was no social media, the CIA didn’t even know who was behind it until later, no one was on YouTube publicly taking credit. The news traveled much slower, there was no “real time” videos being streamed. The unknown was scary. But those of us who are old enough to remember .

If you’d ask my son about our trip and what he’ll always remember, he’ll immediately say the pizza — but it’s quickly followed by his description of his visit to the twin towers.

No, these aren’t staged photos showing mess. This is what my sink & laundry room and counter tops all look like on the regular. In fact, I took all these photos on the same afternoon. I was planning on doing one of those videos where you snap your fingers showing before & after you reset a room — but I realized, THIS is what I should show instead. Normalize regular, well lived in homes. Homes full of crazy and kids and spouses and pets. 🫣 I’m busy and tired but also incredibly blessed.

Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons in Pittsburgh and it's time to start thinking of all things pumpkin! We are so lucky to have so many local farms offering family fun throughout the season. Most farms offer fall festivals of some sort, not just pumpkin picking, so be sure to check each farm’s website (just click the title of each farm and it’ll take you right to their site)
