Good morning from beautiful Jamaica!
So one thing to know about me is that I LOVE Jamaica. I usually go at least 2-3 times a year. I know folks now so I haven't been to an AI for a while π. REAL JAMAICA is way more fun anyway!Especially the non tourists parts . (You have to know me personally to see those posts π)
But to the food part...
I nyam like my peeps when I'm here (I've never had oxtail here π€¦πΏββοΈπ€·πΏββοΈπ)
So today's breakfast is Brown Stew chicken (I swear it's under there π), beans (basically great northern), boiled dumpling, green banana and yam (not sweet potato and YES there is a difference!). I also had chocolate Milo. (Another post because I drank it too fast π.
Sometimes you will hear Jamaican people say "Hard Food" or "Provisions" which are the banana/yam/dumplings or if you have dasheen(taro), Irish potato or root vegetables. Some people also consider green banana, breadfruit, and plaintain as provisions as well.
Ground provisions are a good source of complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and starches.
They may help lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
Ground provisions can be used as an alternative to whole grains! Which is great for diabetics.
This may look like a small portion (this is the small plate) to some but believe me when you go somewhere with "real food" you can tell. I may only finish half of this before I'm stuffed! I eat more when I'm here than at home I usually lose weight so there's that ππ€·πΏββοΈ!
Have a great day! If I remember to take pics I'll share more!
