➡️ It’s an AMA about my life with bipolar 1. 🔗 in comments.

A little bit about me if you’re new here (welcome!!!):

🔥 I was diagnosed bipolar 1 almost 30 years ago
🔥 I work full-time as managing editor for a scientific journal
🔥 l've been married to a neurotypical for 15 years
🔥 We have a 10-year-old daughter

I've seen some things—years of extreme highs and lows with little stability and years mostly symptom free.

Psychosis. Loneliness. Shame & self-stigma. External stigma. Side effects. Wanting to end my life. Also contentment and loving my life.

Ask all the questions. The chat can answer too!

Living with bipolar disorder—or any mental health condition—doesn’t mean you have to navigate it alone. ❤️

Communicate your needs. Build your support system. Let the people who love you know how to show up for you.

Support matters. Communication matters. 🫶🏽

Because awareness isn’t enough.

Su***de prevention can start with something incredibly simple: connection.

Check in. If you’re worried about someone, say something. Listen. Tell them you love them. And if they say they’re struggling, take them seriously.

You don’t need the “right” words. Just show up. ❤️

Bipolar self-stigma and shame can have a profound impact on our lives.

Worse depression. Lower self-esteem and quality of life. Even increased suicidal ideation.

It’s scary that all of this can be tied to the way we feel about ourselves after a bipolar diagnosis.

In this clip, Dr. Andrea Vassilev (Dr. Andrea Vassilev) and I talk about why it’s so important to learn how to fight back against self-stigma..

The full interview with Andrea about her workbook Beyond the Bipolar Label will be out Saturday on YouTube. ❤️

Postpartum psychosis hits the bipolar community hard.

THE STATS: Women who have bipolar have a 20% to 25% chance of having postpartum psychosis after having a child.

That’s 1 in 4 or 5 women!

As someone living with bipolar 1, I was scared it would happen to me after having my daughter. Luckily it didn’t.

Postpartum psychosis can also happen without having bipolar. Just scroll through facebook these days. It’s hard to miss.

Women who don’t have bipolar have only a 0.1% chance of having postpartum psychosis.

That’s 1 or 2 in 1,000 women. It’s not nothing.

About that…. I gently touch on the Lindsay Clancy trial. She’s arguing that she did what she did as a result of postpartum psychosis.

I won’t go into the case more than that.

I certainly have to keep my distance from the trial. It’s okay to protect yourself while also being informed—if being informed is important to you.

Someone asked me about this during a YouTube Live on my channel Our Bipolar.

What do you guys think about postpartum psychosis and, dare I ask, the Lindsay Clancy trial? Please be sensitive to others. ❤️ my.

It’s that time of year for me—mixed episode season. Otherwise known as when summer changes to fall. 🍂

A beautiful time outdoors but not so beautiful inside my brain.

Is there a time of year when a certain bipolar episode loves you? Tell us in the comments. ⬇️
