As the Spring Equinox races towards the summer solstice, the sounds of school bells and car pool lines will soon give way to the peaceful buzz of summer. The smell of sunscreen and chlorine will be a welcome addition to our lives, and, like most towns across America, the dusting off of home plates and the flurry of sunflower seed shells will fill the Plattsmouth air for the 2025 season. Driving by Memorial Park Baseball stadium, I never really thought much of the place. But finally, I found myself intrigued by the sculpture out front and decided to stop and explore a bit. Respecting the old rusty security chain, I only observed from the outside and air, but after a closer look my mind is left wondering, when was the last pitch thrown? When was the last fly ball fielded? And who might of enjoyed the last parking lot beer after a perfect summer night game? What exactly is the story of this place? Am I the only one who sees some real potential here? The grass and field seem to be pretty well maintained, so what’s the story with the stands and other facilities? What’s the communities pulse on this place? Feel free to reach out to the show as I’d love to conduct an interview or two about the local legend sculpted out front, and I’d love to find out more and hear some stories. Let’s work to getting this place fired back up. As always, follow the show as we pursue this, and other interesting things in the area. 💯
