As yall can tell I was very excited and proud of my boy. Way to go Jack Jack hopefully I can shoot a few more so we can get you some practice on bigger birds. If it is a smaller bird he brings it back no problem I just think it threw him off a little bit.

Well, it has finally happened - Jack retrieved his first green bean. I'm so proud of how far my boy has come in such a short time. We have stopped using a leash and a post to keep him from breaking. He can finally stay still and will even watch birds land and swim in the decoys for a few seconds before he gets excited and tries to go get them. He will come back and stop if I tell him to, and if it's a smaller bird, he has no problem bringing it back at all. However, with that mallard, he struggled a little bit. I don't blame him - it's his first big bird to bring back, and I will post the video of it so everyone can see that he did a good job for being new to bigger birds. The hunts are only getting better, and I owe it all to Jack, as watching him become better day by day makes the one-bird days worth it, as long as he gets some work in.

Had a great two weekends in a row. Found a few more wood ducks and Jack got to get some more work in. In his first season he’s already sitting at about 20 retrieves im extremely proud of him and still hoping to get him on a mallard retrieve soon. Great people make the slow hunts seem like the best hunts. I got the pleasure of taking some new people out to my little public spot and may not have found limits but we found a good time. I would never in a million years would have thought my first goose would be while duck hunting and it coming into a duck call it was a sight to see. This story isn’t much about Jack as during the wood duck hunt he got a paw injury and I’m letting it heal so we can get back to the normal program. I wish I had more birds to show but I ain’t mad at the memories made and the random geese shot.

For those of yall that know me this will just be a page for me to share the experiences I have hunting with my dog Jack. For those of yall that don’t know me and may happen to stumble across this I would like to introduce myself and Jack. My name is Evan and for the last 4 years I have been addicted to chasing ducks. I hunt mainly solos on public land so I don’t always have barrel burners but I never have a bad time in the woods. My dog’s name is Jack Sparrow and he’s an almost 2 year old English Cocker Spaniel. Me and Jack would like to share our experiences as we both learn to hunt with each other. He is the first dog I’ve ever trained so please no hate towards the dog if anything I will gladly take any pointers as it would help both of us out. Within the next few posts or hopefully the next post I am hoping to find a mallard to see how he will do retrieving a bigger bird.
