New field geography video out now! The Ring of Kerry is one of Ireland's most popular tourist attractions. But despite millions of people driving the famous loop, almost no one asks the most important question: why is it a ring and what's inside it? New video out now! For over two centuries, America’s geography was its ultimate geographic hack. It provided the perfect rivers, endless fertile soil, and mountains of resources that built an unrivaled global superpower. But today, the very land that built the country is violently turning against it. From sinking cities in the East to drying rivers in the West, America's geography is breaking down. So how did the US use its geography to become a superpower and why is it all starting to fail today? Watch the full video right now! https://youtu.be/cBEqaGJnjac

New video out now! What if I told you that mapmakers mistakenly believed this peninsula was a massive, floating island for over a hundred years—and that thanks to plate tectonics, it's will eventually become one? Or that the United States came incredibly close to annexing this entire territory, completely changing the modern map of North America? Welcome to the Baja California Peninsula. From a sea famously dubbed the 'Aquarium of the World' to a desert filled with bizarre, Dr. Seuss-like trees. Watch the full video here: https://youtu.be/gVyCEdhNIXc

New field geography video out now! Most people know the story of the Irish Famine—but few realize that millions of those emigrants were funneled through one specific region for one specific geographic reason. Welcome to County Cork and its drowned river valley. Today, it’s a bustling city; but for decades, it was the 'gateway of tears' for a nation in flight. So why did this geographic quirk become Ireland’s primary exit point—and why, 175 years later, has the population still not recovered? Watch the full video now: https://youtu.be/mRc31iToH50

New video out now! The Pacific Northwest is home to booming cities, massive agricultural regions, and huge industrial and technological titans. But absolutely none of it would exist without one single waterway: the Columbia River. It’s a geographic marvel that carved through mountains and drowned ancient civilizations just to power our modern world. And today, this invisible giant dictates the entire West Coast power grid, high-stakes international treaties, and the survival of entire ecosystems. So why does a single river control the destiny of the entire Pacific Northwest? Watch the full video here: https://youtu.be/L7hJAefIkpg

New video out now! What if I told you the world's largest lake is actually a salty puddle left over from an ancient ocean? Or that if you stand on its sun-baked shores, you're actually standing nearly 100 feet below sea level? From the birthplace of the global oil boom to a highly contested five-nation border, welcome to the Caspian Sea, a massive, landlocked body of water that acts more like an ocean. New field geography video out now! Have you ever heard of Bull Island in Ireland? It’s okay if you haven’t. Because if you didn’t know any better, it’s always been around and is, otherwise, pretty ordinary looking. So much so that, if you’re just going for a visit, you’d never even think about visiting Bull Island. But what if I told you that this island shouldn’t exist at all? What if I said that it was created entirely by accident? This is the story of how Dublin, Ireland accidentally created an entirely new piece of geography. New video out now! Within Illinois, almost the entire population and economy is crammed into the flat top-right corner around Chicago, while the deep south is rugged, wild, and virtually empty. But what if I told you it used to be the exact opposite? Two hundred years ago, Southern Illinois was the booming center of the American frontier at the confluence of the two most important rivers in the country, while Chicago was just a miserable, muddy swamp. So how did the story completely flip around? Why did Chicago boom while Cairo sank into obscurity? Watch the full video here: https://youtu.be/rLPsBltilpY

New video out now! What if I told you the smallest state in America boasts a coastline that stretches for over 400 miles? Or that despite its tiny footprint, it shares a hidden border with New York and was the very first colony to declare independence from Great Britain? From treacherous pirate havens to the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution, welcome to Rhode Island. Watch the full video here: https://youtu.be/2OG6IeJwD98

At 3:03am Pacific Time (earlier this morning) my primary YouTube channel, Geography By Geoff, officially surpassed 1 million subscribers! 🥳 This is obviously something I've been looking forward to for a long time and now that it's here it's overwhelming but just so incredibly amazing to see. I don't want to drag on for too long, but THANK YOU to every person who follows and watches my content on YouTube. It's an incredible job I get to do.

I have a lot of announcements coming pretty soon about the channel and my business as a whole so stay tuned for that. But for now, I'm just gonna take a little bit of time to celebrate before diving right back into making more geography content for you.
