⚠️🚨NEW FEATURE….

We’re doing a new feature where we discuss and compare two similar movies to decide which we prefer!

I’m tying this weeks poll with the release of our latest episode of the podcast - STAND BY ME 🎧

Naturally a good fit to compare it with is THE GOONIES…

Coming-of-age themes - Both Stand by Me and The Goonies focus on the journey of four young boys the challenges they meet and facing change. They each explore themes like friendship, bravery, and self-discovery as the kids navigate their respective adventures, though The Goonies focuses more on being light-hearted, slapstick and family friendly whereas Stand By Me is more introspective.

Group dynamics - In both films the dynamic between the characters is central to the plot, with each group member bringing a unique personality or strength to the adventure. Although the overall tone of the characters in The Goonies features slightly exaggerated personalities for comedic effect, Stand By Me treats the characters with more a deeply emotional connection.

Adventure and exploration - Both movies center around a journey. In Stand by Me, the boys set out to find the body of a missing child, while in The Goonies, they search for a hidden treasure. These adventures take them away from their everyday lives and into the unknown.

🎬🎧 ITS HERE!….

We’ve finally delivered episode 39 of the Men Who Stare at GOATs podcast! An emotionally charged journey both thematically AND literally as we take a wander down the train tracks to the past for 1986s STAND BY ME…

Join us as we draw upon our own coming-of-age and discuss comparisons the movie raised of the characters childhood memories vs nostalgia. Then, if the movie is still able to illicit the same reactions and stand the test of time as we decide if it makes…

🎥🤯 DID I GET THIS WRONG?! ⬇️

The response to the Gremlins 2 post was wild!

We had a few discussions that made me think that mmmmaybe the quintessential nostalgia from something like Gremlins is derived MORE from the sequel than the original 👀👀

And that’s something you’d expect to hear for like upper echelon of sequels, Godfather 2, Terminator 2 etc…

So maybe I’ve been undervaluing Gremlins 2 this whole time 🤔 what’s MORE crazy is that I learned has never even SEEN it 😱

Worthy of a wildcard episode of the podcast? would you want to hear that… go to our stories and answer the poll… ⬆️

🎥🍿 FUNNY STORY… ⬇️

So I was in a secondhand book shop this weekend and saw this HUUUUGE “best movies reviewed” book…

Naturally being competitive, I immediately searched all the movies we’ve covered in the podcast to see what a published reviewer had to say 🧐

Now everyone’s entitled to their opinion (that’s what makes these discussions fun) but jeeez BTTF three stars and fu***ng Gremlins 2 - FOUR STARS!!!

This book should come with a trigger warning! No wonder someone donated it! 😂

But what do YOU think?

Is BTTF overrated?

🎥🍿 SOMETHING WE OFTEN JOKE ABOUT….

The difference in quality between the films we watch 🤣

I won’t let a little thing like crappy box art put me off watching an equally crappy movie! 🧐

BUT what I’ll say for Fall Guy is the trailer didn’t resonate with me at all… but the marketing was BIG!

And its not like I can turn my nose up now after Troll is it 😉

So it’ll definitely make the list (one day)

🎥🍿 IF YOU NEED PROOF…

That the 80s is the most bats**t crazy decade of co***ne fuelled madness movies, then look no further than THIS heap!

Perhaps the only slightly funny thing that comes out of this is that by sheer coincidence this can boast being the first Harry Potter movie! Unless JK herself is secretly a fan of trolls, witches and magic 🤔

🎥🍿 WE BACK! 🎉

Well tbh just like Marvel movies we never left!!

We haven’t stopped watching movies so I’ve got 6 of these to post to catchup! and again like Marvel they will run the gamut of quality 😂

Which ties in with this review ^

I haven’t seen The Marvels and I gotta be honest I don’t plan to! sometimes films have to be spectacularly s**t to draw my attention not just middle of the road s**t 😬

But am I judging it too harshly? Is this actually a return to form? Or simply ANOTHER superhero copy and paste job…

📺🍿 PEOPLE SOMETIMES ASK…

How come I don’t watch as many films as Simon…

The truth is I do but I get weird impulses to go back and watch things like My Cousin Vinny or the sixth Friday the 13th movie 😂

BUT I’ve actually been doing way better at watching some tv shows recently!!

We’re not ready to pivot into a tv show podcast (if we did it might be reviewing The Office) but let us what YOUVE been watching OR if you’ve seen any of the above and what you think ⬇️

OR MAYBE… recommend us a movie (new or obscure) with a little review and we’ll post it and check it out 👍🏻

🎥🍿 NOW YOU KNOW I WONT LIE TO YOU…

This one has completely passed me by 😓

I think the marketing may have let it down because ok I may have seen a poster on the side of a bus but that’s about it!!

And if it ain’t Iron Man vs Cap I’m out 😂
