If I’m hiking 40 miles to Machu Picchu, you better believe that I’m staying in the coolest accommodations along the way! And these along the Salkantay Trek did not disappoint!

Day 1 Sky camp - one of the most unique accomodations, these glass domes give you the chance to enjoy nature under the clear skies of Peru. 9/10 only because it was freezing, no showers, and shared bathrooms, but otherwise amazing!

Day 2 Mountain sky view - surrounded by mountains, lush greenery, and the soothing sounds of the jungle. You’re high in the mountains here and you feel like you’re on another planet! 10/10 amazing!

Day 3 Sacred jungle lodge - one of the most exclusive campsites, surrounded by lush greenery. Has a cozy interior, comfortable beds, and relaxing atmosphere. 10/10 amazing!

Day 4 Aguas Calientes - this hotel will change based on if you book the premium or the classic trek. It was a normal hotel, with wifi and breakfast included, but we gave it a 7/10 only because we had just been spoiled at the previous accommodations!

Would you do this trek to stay at these accommodations?

If you have an overnight layer or even a long layover in Lima, Peru, you’re gonna wanna book a pod!

is the only in-terminal sleep pods and cabins in Lima airport and they are definitely worth the price.

The rooms are quiet, clean and comfy. We loved the convenience of not having to travel into the city for our overnight layover!

We had so much good food in Cusco! Everything we ate was delicious, and very well priced! If we had to choose, our favorites were probably Llama cafe, .cusco, and Ofrenda. In our opinion, you really can’t go wrong!

👉🏻 Comment “PACK” and we’ll send you our favorite trekking gear 🥾⛰️

After sharing our daily Salkantay Trek videos, we got lots of questions about what we actually wore on the trek, so here it is.

These are all the clothes that got us through:
✅ freezing mornings
✅ hot afternoons
✅ rain, sleet, and mud
✅ 5 days hiking to Machu Picchu

Some clothes didn’t make the cut, but these are the pieces we’d bring and wear again.

And luckily for you, a bunch of our favorite trekking layers and hiking essentials are currently included in REI’s biggest sale of the season.

Whether you’re hiking the Salkantay Trek, traveling Peru, or just building a better hiking wardrobe, hopefully this helps make packing a little easier.

Save this for your Peru trip planning!

Today is the fifth and final day of our Salkantay Trek and we finally make it to Machu Picchu! Our tickets into Machu Picchu were at 6 AM so we were up at five to catch the bus at 5:30.

👉🏻 Comment “Machu” to get the full scoop on our last day of the trek!

When booking with Salkantay trekking company they usually get you circuit two tickets unfortunately by the time we booked our tour, the circuit two was sold out so we did circuit three and circuit one which I think was fabulous.

You get some insane views plus if you’re lucky you’ll see some llamas and alpacas running and playing like we did!

Then it was back to Aguas calientes for lunch and the train. We got to take the Perurail vistadome observatory train and it was spectacular- highly recommend!

We bused back to Cusco to get our luggage and then it was goodbye to our group and our wonderful guide Julio!

We honestly had the most amazing time with and our guide !!

We’re on our last day of hiking before reaching Machu Picchu. There is another big elevation change today, but nothing like day 2! And with views like we had, we really can’t complain!

👉🏻 comment “jungle” if you want the whole day 4 experience and our tips for today!

We made a stop at Llactopata ruins where got our first views of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu! And then made our way back down the mountain and to aguas calientes. And then time for a celebratory dinner to commemorate our long trek.

Tomorrow we enter Machu Picchu!

Today’s mileage is a little different, depending on if you’re doing the classic or premium trek. We did the premium trek, and we got to bypass the last bit of hiking on the train tracks and instead took the train to aguas Calientes.
