Ben Tanzer honors Liz Scott's book, This Never Happened, among his list of "This Book Will Change Your Life."
"I wonder whether part of my job here is to separate how painful this story is from how engaging the writing and structure is, with its shifting timelines and the introduction of multi-media(s), including reports and letters, all of which make for a grand puzzle and exploration of truth and memory."
"Writing a Memoir: In theory I do believe that we all have a story tell; that we are each entitled to the space we take up on the this planet; that each of our voices should be heard. But the decision to commit my story to paper and send it out into the world has been fraught. Feeling entitled mysel...
Read interview with University of Hell author Isobel O'Hare on The Rumpus providing really great insights into their book "all this can be yours" ... the creative spark, the process, the viral fallout, and the subsequent publication with us. WE'RE THRILLED. ❤️🔥😈
"Isobel O’Hare’s erasure poems, made from the redacted statements of celebrities accused of sexual assault and harassment during the #MeToo reckoning, went viral after she posted them on social media. Reading the resulting poems all together, in 'all this can be yours,' is rather like accessing a Rorsach image or a photographic negative of the cultural blind spots and dissimulations of those accused. The rationalizations of offenders like Harvey Weinstein and Louis C. K. are thrown into a stark, morally astringent relief, while the poems—for they are most definitely poems—highlight the critical intelligence of a writer who understands how language is a camouflage for abusers."

We are filled with gratitude for this glowing review by After the Pause of Liz Scott's memoir, This Never Happened.
"This is a love letter to the search, a celebration of family and trying to make sense of family, including the ways they cause pain and turmoil. This is the pinnacle of a genre. A book for which all future memoirs I will wonder, comparing in my mind, 'yes, but does it come anywhere close to being as good as Liz Scott?'"
When memoir is done well it has the capacity to invoke a far deeper connection than fiction. In memoir, you understand these characters are alive or at least once lived. It becomes not just a story…
Happy National Book Lovers Day! 📖 Tell us what you love reading and we will recommend a book from our catalog. ❤️🔥
University of Hell Press author, Isobel O'Hare, and their book "all this can be yours" is highlighted alongside the work of Maria Hummel and Safia Elhillo by Read Poetry in their article "The Poetry of #MeToo: Powerful Poets Speak Out."
The #MeToo movement, founded by activist and TIME’s 2017 Person of the Year Tarana Burke, has spoken truth to power by confronting predatory men and opening secrets of sexual assault, harassment, and inequality in industries from film to fast food. The idea is simple, yet courageous and revolution...

The whole time, I thought I was alone. But there were people just as pained and confused as I was. I found my community. I found my church. I kept returning every Sunday, sharing work I had written…

University of Hell author Joseph Edwin Haeger on the power of poetry, check it out. "I wasn’t necessarily trying to tell a story with Learn to Swim, but wanted to transfer a wealth of feelings with which I didn’t know what to do."
I don’t only want people to be entertained, but also for them to feel something. And the fastest way to do that is through poetry; you are framing a feeling and passing it on, even if it̵…

"When I was contracted by University of Hell Press to design the book cover for Liz Scott's memoir This Never Happened, I was equal parts thrilled and freaked out. As a member of Liz' writing group, I knew every essay intimately, and let me just admit: I'd been having a love affair with this book for years."

Review by The Poetry Question of Isobel O'Hare's book, all this can be yours. "If my daughter was a teenager, and old enough to understand the gravity of the #MeToo movement, Isobel O’Hare’s all this can be yours would be required reading."
all this can be yours is a patchwork quilt of what should have been said by all the dicks in the room.
