Traverse no.3: Aline Héau by Michael Kirchoff now live!
"I quite literally find that some photographic artists own their own world, most especially when they produce their work from scratch. They dive in headfirst to either creating or modifying a way of working that sets a precedent for the rest of us to admire and marvel at. My latest case in point is the talented Aline Héau, from the Loire Valley, France. Her photographic objects epitomize the word blue in the purest sense. She excels at creating cyanotype works of such brilliant blue color that it is impossible to look away. The added factor that makes this even more spectacular is the fact that she creates these cyanotype masterpieces on glass of differing shapes and sizes. Resembling the small panes of glass in a stained glass window, her photograms from the natural world rendered in this way have garnered her attention far and wide." --MK

Apartment 304
These photographs are from an ongoing series of snapshots taken in and around my wife's and my apartment with a Polaroid camera and instant film over many years. I've had the idea of making images of my immediate domestic, day to day environment ever since spending a summer during college living in the Boston expressionist painter Jason Berger's art-filled apartment in Brookline. He painted mainly landscapes but I had a special affinity for the work he produced in his apartment. I was amazed at how his unique way of seeing transformed the space in which I was living into abstract, playful, and frenzied lines of color and space. Robert Bechtel is another artist whose use of everyday domestic scenes in his work has influenced my approach to this project.
We've lived in this rent-controlled apartment for over 20 years and although the rent is very reasonable we sometimes think about moving.
The thought of living somewhere else is a poignant reminder that although we've spent a good part of our lives here it may, at some point, be just a memory. I've made a lot of pictures of physical details of our apartment over the years, but the series mainly consists of those that depict the quiet moments of little consequence that comprise most of our time.

Welcome to Diffusion Tape no. 9 with curator Hamidah Glasgow. Hamidah is a member of Strange Fire Collective and is the Executive Director of the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado. We sat down for a nice chat during the 2019 Photolucida Festival in Portland. I’m in awe of this woman and I hope you enjoy hearing some of her personal stories as much as I did. We talked about her youth, her path to art, her exciting and unconventional career path (spoiler alert, there’s helicopters), the amazing work she’s done at the Center for Fine Art Photography, and her involvement with Strange Fire Collective. The only thing I think we missed talking about is our mutual love of good bourbon… maybe next time.

Now streaming: Tape no.7: Mike Sakasegawa. Back in March of this year I had the pleasure of sitting down with photographer, writer, and podcaster Mike Sakasegawa while he was in Portland attending a conference. I became aware of Mike a few years back because of his own podcast called Keep the Channel Open where he primarily converses with photographers and writers. In our conversation we talk about his work, the authenticity of photography, his podcasting projects, and his progression as a photographer, writer, and activist. And of course we had to dissect his famous viral lemon video.

Just received my copy! I can see the love and care that went into it. Colors are moving. Print quality is magnificent. Taking it all in is like a tactile experience for my eyes. Thank you for bringing it all together. Inspiring!
Ahhhh, what a book! Just received Diffusion IX, turning the pages and enjoying every moment! Very proud to be part of this publication and love seeing the work of my very talented friends, congratulation to you all!
So excited to receive my copy... I am so incredibly honored to be included with the new posthumous collaboration I am doing with my father. Blue Mitchell thank you for all the beauty you bring to the visual dialogue...
Super excited to be included in the new Diffusion Annual IX. Just arrived in my mailbox and it’s stunning. Thanks to Diffusion and Blue Mitchell for their support and hard work. This is a real honor to be included amongst such incredible photographers, many of whom I have met, some who I have only connected with online and through exhibitions, and lots who I can call friends.
Received mine, it's fabulous. Love the little gold seal on the envelope, made it feel like something really precious. Thanks for doing such a great job representing alternative photography!
