NCRA speed champion Douglas J. Zweizig is the court reporter drawn here, reporting the testimony of Elon Musk. Nothing can match the speed and accuracy of a human stenographer.
More than just "a stenographer," Doug Zweizig represents our profession well, having won national speed and realtime contests many times over.
When your case is important, make sure there's a stenographic reporter in the seat, never a digital recorder. (Hint: Every case is important.)
Honoring all who served. A sincere THANK YOU!
...To assign that responsibility to a lesser means constitutes a diminution of rights to the public interest at large. When people’s (and society’s) ultimate rights are at issue, and the trial is only as good as the record of trial, the human court reporter is needed to ensure that all parties receive due process, [NCRA President Jason Meadors added.]
Meadors further explained that the court reporter is the one with the presence of mind during the proceedings to ensure that the record is kept in good order, is subject to strict ethics of impartiality, with the reporter’s ultimate loyalty devoted entirely to the accuracy of the record. Not to any party. To the record.
Digital recordings of proceedings cannot replace the accuracy of a live court reporterReston, Va., Nov. 08, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A recent string of news reports about the effect shortages of stenographic court reporters in courtroom proceedings fail to note that in most areas impacted, those sho...

Excellent article from the Los Angeles Daily Journal, written by a lawyer whose case was adversely affected due to the error of a *digital recorder* making the transcript instead of a certified stenographic court reporter. "So, the lesson of the story is: Never take a deposition or defend a deposition unless it is before a Certified Shorthand Reporter...The success or failure of your case may depend on it."

The devil is in the details for remote oaths. Make sure your oath for remote depositions in Oregon is given by an Oregon Certified Shorthand Reporter. See Robin's article in the December issue of the Oregon State Bar Bulletin.

Stenographic court reporters are well aware of this issue in courts who use digital recorders. It is a dirty little secret of our state court system and why our clients hire us to report their court proceedings.
A Milwaukee County court administrator says she was not aware of a recording problem in a court commissioner’s hearing room until the FOX6 Investigators asked for a transcript from the hearing where Darrell Brooks was freed on $1,000 bail days before the Waukesha Christmas parade attack.
A year to be especially thankful. Wishing you the happiness of good friends, the joy of a happy family, and the wonder of the holiday season. Have a memorable thanksgiving!"
