Last year we collaborated with Yeti Films on a 5-part series for Amazon Web Services called DATA CENTERED. The series delves into the hometown stories of AWS vendors, employees, and affiliates in the Pendleton, Umatilla, and Hermiston regions of Oregon. Founder Erin Galey directed.

AWS recently established numerous data centers in the area, which have helped provide new economic opportunities to the diverse local population. This series explores both the challenges and overarching benefits these changes have brought to the region.

This particular episode shines a spotlight on and the founder Shawn Eng, who embodies some of the most genuine human qualities we’ve seen in a long time.

The UO Sports Product Management Masters degree has an awesome creation story. It’s also a groundbreaking program in the sports product industry worldwide.

Before the program was approved, it was a glimmer in the eye of Ellen Schmidt-Devlin - an OG footwear director at Nike for 27 years. Ellen’s dream? To create a world-class program for students to learn how to bring sports products from idea to retail, in a brand-neutral environment where education could take precedent. Ellen had the experience to boot; she’s been in product development, footwear management, business direction, and factory partner management around the globe. Her vision was the result of her experience and desire to share knowledge, educate, and elevate future leaders. No simple task, but ESD is also no stranger to an old fashioned challenge 💪🏼 🐐

At the beginning of the initiative, Ellen partnered with FLICKER’s founder, Erin Galey to help tell the program’s story (before there was ever a program). Erin & Ellen co-wrote the story and brought it to life with the help of key collaborators Sneaker Prof and Made To Hire, who helped sharpen the story and visuals. Before you know it UO Sports Product Management was in motion with visits to Nike, Adidas, KEEN, Columbia Sportswear, and many other sports product businesses in the Portland area.

The UO Sports Product Management program is currently in it’s 9th year and has graduated around 450 students to date, helping them land jobs at all the above mentioned brands and many more. Some go on to bring their own ideas to life, or put their own products into the marketplace. We’ve been very grateful to also receive a masters-level education in the industry through our work with them! And to have such an incredible chance to sharpen our own blade.
