A recent 15-year study followed patients with knee osteoarthritis who were told they needed knee replacement surgery. Researchers found that stem cells placed into the subchondral bone (the bone beneath the cartilage) provided longer-lasting pain relief and helped many patients delay or avoid knee replacement. While every patient is different, the findings offer an exciting look at how regenerative medicine continues to evolve.
