Portland Hip-Hop veteran Mic Crenshaw returns to PDX Radio for another in-depth conversation—this time centered on his new album Retribution, the story behind “Flyin,” and the international work that has connected his music with artists and communities throughout Africa.
Released April 3, 2026, Retribution is a 17-track project featuring collaborations including Toni Hill, Melissa Barrison, Kiloriti Maasai, Libretto, Jonny Cool, Redray Frazier, Arietta Ward and more. “Flyin,” featuring Melissa Barrison and Toni Hill, is one of the records Mic personally wanted to discuss during this interview.
Mic and PDX Radio go beyond the album to discuss why his work in Africa became an important part of his life, what he's learned from African Hip-Hop communities, international artistic collaboration, cultural exchange, activism, independence, and what this latest chapter represents after decades in Hip-Hop.
Mic Crenshaw is a Portland-based MC, poet, educator and cultural activist whose career has included Hungry Mob, GlobalFam, Education Without Borders and the Afrikan Hip Hop Caravan. His work has connected music with education, human rights, community development and international Hip-Hop culture for decades.
