Set your DVRs or tune in to Portland's KPTV-12 tomorrow, March 28 at noon for my latest episode of Portland Unlocked!
This episode, I spent a gorgeous fall day at Providence Park watching the Thorns dominate the Houston Dash. I was granted full access to speak with head coach Rob Gale, hometown keeper Bella Bixby, and newest teammate, defender M.A. Vignola. Watching such an action-packed game from the sidelines was something I will never forget!
Next, TexPat friends joined me for a Texas-sized sampling of the best BBQ in town, compliments of legendary pitmaster, Ben Vaughn, at his new joint, Lil' Barbecue. This is the first of a new recurring segment where my favorite former Texans and I are on the hunt to satisfy cravings when we are missing our hometowns. Ben showed us the hospitality that Texas is known for.
Next stop- my latest listing, this time in the picturesque Laurelhurst neighborhood. Owner Will and his 3 corgis welcomed me into their stunning home, where I walked through the home and shared some tips for prepping an owner-occupied home (it is now pending after one week on the market, with two offers received).
After sharing with my viewers a restaurant where the food feels like home, then touring a beautiful home I listed, I headed to downtown Portland, in time for the lunch rush at Blanchet House, the shelter and cafe that serves an average of 1200 meals daily to anyone who walks in their doors. Steve Cook, Director of Strategic Initiatives, shared the history of this beloved organization that has been operating since 1952. We also talked about Bethanie's Room, their new shelter that houses up to 75 women per night. Relying on the generosity of volunteers and donors, without any local or federal funding, Blanchet House shows how Portland takes care of each other.
Home isn’t just where we live—it’s what connects us. It’s in the meals that bring us back, the spaces we create, the support we offer our neighbors, and the pride we feel cheering on our Portland Thorns.
