Born and raised in Los Angeles, Alicia J. Rose pursued acting as a youth and took up directing as a junior at El Camino High school, where she was the first female who had ever directed their closed-circuit variety show. Duly inspired she headed North majoring in TV
/Film at San Francisco State University, acting in a few indie films and becoming a popular DJ at college radio station KUSF while booking live music at punk venues. She transplanted to Portland in the mid-90’s and in the 2010's started her own production company. Since then she has directed over 3 dozen music videos for artists like First Aid Kit, Cake and Bob Mould as well as visually branding popular bands like The Decemberists and many others with her imaginative portraiture, as well as creating a prodigious amount of striking commercial work. Her approach to directing utilizes her unique sense of visual style, grounded humor and snappy storytelling to deliver authentic narratives that resonate deeply with viewers. Scripted comedic web series “The Benefits of Gusbandry” was her first foray into digital episodic storytelling and over its two seasons received wide acclaim from press outlets like The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, A/V Club, PASTE, OUT and others. Her feature directorial debut - hybrid narrative/musical A KADDISH FOR BERNIE MADOFF has just come off an award winning festival run and is slated for a Fall 2022 public release. She is currently working on a host of new projects.
Rose is also musician fka Miss Murgatroid. She currently performs in witch wave trio Party Witch. Rose Productions & Photography LLC is a certified ESB & WBE in the state of Oregon.

Back safe and sound after a quick jaunt to the East Coast last week to do what I love - make film - especially with my dream team of & 😻💜 This project is top secret for now but in 5 days we stopped to film inspiring humans in Brooklyn, White Plains, Beacon, Putnam Valley and Northampton Mass! It was just the 3 of us so we all maxed out our skills, finding me shooting and directing this time which I love to do! More info soon as we embark on this wonderful new journey. ✌🏼

Gishiki was released 4 years ago (yesterday) and I was thinking back about the creation of that album, and how it prompted me to learn to play the Japanese koto, which lead me to doing live quadraphonic performances on the west coast featuring koto and live modular. I got to collab with Fiona Stoltze who created amazing shibori-dyed fabric for the furoshiki-wrapped limited edition CDs and with Natalia Rudychev who composed some lovely haiku for each song. I commissioned a video for "Meiyo" from director Alicia J. Rose Productions + Photography who shot lovely scenes at the Portland Japanese Garden .
