It's Tuesday December 2 and it's snowing! Swingin' the Blues is going to be listening to the drinking songs of Amos Milburn. He was a great pianist with a nice voice but because of a hit he had the record company kept insisting he record more drinking songs. I'm not sure wether to curse them or thank them. You decide. We'll hear his drinking tunes and some tasty jazz and blues.

It's Tuesday November 11, so it's time for another Swingin' the Blues. Tonight's show is the Peacock Records story. Peacock Records was one of the many independent record labels that popped up in the late 1940s. These smaller companies had a finger on the pulse of what was up and coming and released music the big companies didn't think was worth bothering with. These smaller companies were ultimately responsible for the music that became rock and roll.

Dear Friends,
This week NEXT TO SILENCE dives into the cool, jagged world of The Lounge Lizards — a band that took jazz, stripped it of its pretensions, and poured it into the downtown streets of New York. Founded by saxophonist, painter, and provocateur John Lurie in 1978, the group bridged the gap between punk and bebop — a mix of Ornette Coleman, Thelonious Monk, and CBGB attitude. Their music was ironic and sincere all at once — sophisticated but never slick.
Playlist for the Week of November 10, 2025:
00:00:00 The Lounge Lizards - Big Heart
00:10:06 The Lounge Lizards - My Trip to Ireland
The Lounge Lizards - Bob the Bob
The Lounge Lizards - One Big Yes
The Lounge Lizards - Bob and Nico
The Lounge Lizards - Hair Street
The Lounge Lizards - Voice of Chunk
The Lounge Lizards - Incident on South Street
The Lounge Lizards - It Could Have Been Very Very Beautiful
The Lounge Lizards - Queen of All Ears
The Lounge Lizards - Tarantella
The Lounge Lizards - The Magic of Palermo
