Aus den düsteren Winkeln Limas entstammt eine Formation, die seit den frühen 2000er-Jahren kompromisslosen, heidnisch-satanischen Extrem-Metal zelebriert:
Signs of the Evil.
Gegründet im Jahr 2002, steht die Band für einen rohen, ungeschliffenen Mix aus klassischem Black Metal und peitschendem Death Metal.
In ihren Anfangstagen teilte die Truppe das Schicksal vieler südamerikanischer Underground-Acts: Besetzungswechsel und organisatorische Hürden prägten die ersten Jahre.
Dennoch veröffentlichte die damals als Duo agierende Band 2005 ihr selbstbetiteltes Erstlings-Demo Signs of the Evil, das die musikalische Marschroute klar definierte – raue Riffs, rasendes Schlagzeugspiel und hasserfüllte, okkulte Texte.
Die Besetzung anno 2026 sieht wie folgt aus: Alexander Belcifer – Vocals, lyrics, and composition
Hellthor – Guitars, bass (studio), and composition AnHell – Drums
Nach einer längeren Phase der Ausarbeitung erschien 2015 das Debütalbum Black Throne of Blood, das den rohen Geist der Demos aufgriff und in ein eigenständiges Vollformat goss.
Wer auf unpolierten, südamerikanischen Black/Death Metal der alten Schule steht – frei von modernen Trends –, findet hier ehrliche Handwerkskunst aus dem Untergrund.
Nun haben mir die Jungs eine E-Mail geschickt und gefragt, ob ich nicht Lust hätte, was zu ihrem neuen Output Calling the Ancient Legions Under the Red Moon zu schreiben. Na klar, und da bin ich jetzt auch schon.
Südamerikanischer Black Metal hat seit jeher diese ganz spezielle, unpolierte Magie – das durfte ich schon häufiger feststellen.
Wer mit dem sauber durchproduzierten Modern-Sound nichts anfangen kann und die rohe, ungeschliffene Demotape-Attitüde der 80er und frühen 90er vermisst, wird bei den Peruanern feuchte Augen bekommen.
Mit Calling the Ancient Legions Under the Red Moon haut die Truppe ihr drittes Album raus – und scheißt dabei konsequent auf jegliche Hörgewohnheiten des Mainstreams.
Schon nach den ersten Sekunden des Intros Invocato Infernal Reges wird klar, wohin die Reise geht:
direkt in den finsteren Schlund mesopotamischer Mythen.
Black Metal War bricht im Anschluss ohne Vorwarnung über einen herein. Die Produktion ist trocken, schneidend und herrlich schmutzig.
Keine Trigger-Drums, keine aufpolierten Synthie-Teppiche, sondern giftige Gitarrenriffs, ein rumpeliger Bass und Vocals, die klingen, als hätte Lord Belcifer frisch frische Graberde geschluckt.
Track für Track arbeiten sich Signs of the Evil durch ein düsteres Dickicht aus Okkultismus, sumerischer Mythologie und kompromissloser Anti-Kosmik. Highlight der Scheibe ist definitiv Glory & Pride, das mit seinem treibenden Tempo und der schieren Abgef**ktheit stark an alte Vulcano oder Sarcófago erinnert.
Auch Tiamat's End und El Llamado de Marduk stechen heraus:
Hier schlägt die Atmosphäre spürbar in rituelle Beschwörung um, ohne dass die Band jemals an Aggression einbüßt.
Wer hier nach ausgefeilter Harmonielehre oder technischem Gefrickel sucht, ist definitiv an der falschen Adresse.
Calling the Ancient Legions Under the Red Moon ist ein ehrliches, rücksichtsloses Underground-Zeitdokument, das die alte Schule nicht nur zitiert, sondern lebt.
Ein Brett für Puristen und all jene, die Black Metal noch als das schmutzige, unheilige Etwas lieben, das er mal war.
Fazit: Rumpelig, böse, authentisch. Nichts für Weichspüler, aber ein Fest für Underground-Kultisten.

De los rincones más sombríos de Lima surge una banda que, desde principios de la década de 2000, rinde homenaje al metal extremo pagano-satánico sin concesiones:
Signs of the Evil.
Fundada en 2002, la banda se caracteriza por una mezcla cruda y sin pulir de black metal clásico y death metal arrollador.
En sus inicios, el grupo compartió el destino de muchas bandas underground sudamericanas: los primeros años estuvieron marcados por cambios en la formación y obstáculos organizativos.
Sin embargo, la banda, que en ese entonces funcionaba como un dúo, lanzó en 2005 su primer demo homónimo, *Signs of the Evil*, que definió claramente su rumbo musical: riffs ásperos, una batería vertiginosa y letras ocultistas llenas de odio.
La formación en el año 2026 es la siguiente: Alexander Belcifer – Voz, letras y composición Hellthor – Guitarras, bajo (estudio) y composición AnHell – Batería
Tras una larga fase de desarrollo, en 2015 salió a la luz el álbum debut *Black Throne of Blood*, que retomó el espíritu crudo de las demos y lo plasmó en un álbum completo con identidad propia.
Quien disfrute del black/death metal sudamericano sin pulir de la vieja escuela —libre de tendencias modernas— encontrará aquí auténtica artesanía del underground.
Ahora los chicos me han enviado un correo electrónico preguntándome si me gustaría escribir algo sobre su nuevo lanzamiento, *Calling the Ancient Legions Under the Red Moon*. Claro que sí, y aquí estoy.
El black metal sudamericano siempre ha tenido esa magia tan especial y sin pulir; eso lo he podido constatar en varias ocasiones.
Quien no se identifique con el sonido moderno y perfectamente producido, y extrañe la actitud cruda y sin pulir de las cintas de demo de los 80 y principios de los 90, se emocionará con estos peruanos.
Con *Calling the Ancient Legions Under the Red Moon*, la banda lanza su tercer álbum —y, al hacerlo, le da al carajo con cualquier hábito auditivo del mainstream.
Ya desde los primeros segundos de la intro *Invocato Infernal Reges* queda claro hacia dónde va el viaje:
directamente a las oscuras profundidades de los mitos mesopotámicos.
A continuación, «Black Metal War» te arrolla sin previo aviso. La producción es seca, cortante y maravillosamente sucia.
Sin tambores con triggers, sin capas de sintetizadores pulidas, sino riffs de guitarra venenosos, un bajo retumbante y voces que suenan como si Lord Belcifer acabara de tragarse tierra fresca de tumba.
Pista tras pista, Signs of the Evil se abre camino a través de una espesa y sombría maraña de ocultismo, mitología sumeria y anticósmica sin concesiones. Lo más destacado del disco es, sin duda, «Glory & Pride», que con su ritmo trepidante y su pura locura recuerda mucho a los viejos Vulcano o Sarcófago.
También destacan «Tiamat’s End» y «El Llamado de Marduk»:
aquí la atmósfera se transforma notablemente en una invocación ritual, sin que la banda pierda nunca su agresividad.
Quien busque aquí una armonía musical sofisticada o florituras técnicas, definitivamente está en el lugar equivocado.
Calling the Ancient Legions Under the Red Moon es un documento histórico del underground honesto y despiadado que no solo hace referencia a la vieja escuela, sino que la vive.
Una joya para los puristas y todos aquellos que aún aman al black metal como ese algo sucio e impío que solía ser.
Conclusión: ruidoso, malvado, auténtico. No es para los blandos, pero sí una fiesta para los fanáticos del underground.

From the dark corners of Lima comes a band that has been celebrating uncompromising, pagan-satanic extreme metal since the early 2000s:
Signs of the Evil.
Founded in 2002, the band is known for a raw, unpolished blend of classic black metal and lashing death metal.
In its early days, the band shared the fate of many South American underground acts: lineup changes and organizational hurdles marked its first few years.
Nevertheless, the band—then operating as a duo—released its self-titled debut demo, *Signs of the Evil*, in 2005, which clearly defined their musical direction: raw riffs, frenzied drumming, and hate-filled, occult lyrics.

After an extended period of development, the debut album *Black Throne of Blood* was released in 2015, capturing the raw spirit of the demos and casting it into a full-length album of its own.
If you’re into unpolished, old-school South American black/death metal—free of modern trends—you’ll find honest underground craftsmanship here.
Now the guys have sent me an email asking if I’d be interested in writing something about their new release, *Calling the Ancient Legions Under the Red Moon*. Sure thing, and here I am.
South American black metal has always had this very special, unpolished magic—something I’ve noticed time and again.
Anyone who can’t stand the cleanly produced modern sound and misses the raw, unpolished demo-tape attitude of the ’80s and early ’90s will get teary-eyed listening to these Peruvians.
With *Calling the Ancient Legions Under the Red Moon*, the band is releasing their third album—and in doing so, they’re consistently thumbing their noses at any mainstream listening habits.
Within the first few seconds of the intro “Invocato Infernal Reges,” it becomes clear where this journey is headed:
straight into the dark abyss of Mesopotamian myths.
“Black Metal War” then descends upon you without warning. The production is dry, cutting, and wonderfully dirty.
No trigger drums, no polished synth pads—just venomous guitar riffs, a rumbling bass, and vocals that sound as if Lord Belcifer had just swallowed fresh grave dirt.
Track by track, Signs of the Evil winds its way through a dark thicket of occultism, Sumerian mythology, and uncompromising anti-cosmism. The highlight of the album is definitely “Glory & Pride,” which, with its driving tempo and sheer madness, is strongly reminiscent of early Vulcano or Sarcófago.
“Tiamat’s End” and “El Llamado de Marduk” also stand out:
Here, the atmosphere noticeably shifts into ritualistic invocation, without the band ever losing any of its aggression.
Anyone looking for sophisticated harmony or technical flourishes is definitely in the wrong place.
*Calling the Ancient Legions Under the Red Moon* is an honest, ruthless underground document of its time that not only references the old school but lives it.
A must-listen for purists and all those who still love black metal as the dirty, unholy thing it once was.
Bottom line: Rough, evil, authentic. Not for the faint of heart, but a feast for underground cultists.
