There Was a Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going on in Jackson For “The King of the Cowboys!”

Thursday night was a great night of music, dinner, and excitement as Jacob Tolliver brought his pumping piano alive at Parks Edge in Jackson for a great community cause.

Alan Stockmeister and the Total Media Crew presented the first of two charity concerts designed to raise money for a statue of Roy Rogers and Trigger to be erected at his Esplanade namesake located in the heart of downtown Portsmouth.

The evening opened up with great music from sEssion Five, Evan Brown, and then Jake.

Jacob’s set was electric as he pounded through a myriad of Jerry Lee Lewis classics, plus many of his own creations that are arranged in “The Killers” signature piano style.

It was Jacob Tolliver‘s childhood vision, and eventually his adult mission to find a way to help raise money to create what will be an honor as well as a tourist attraction for Roy and his hometown.

All profit proceeds from the evening go straight to the bottom line of the $140,000
needed to complete the dream. To date, the goal is close in sight with a 2027 unveiling in the works.

The crowd loved it as on a historical note, Jake played the closing set on the last night for this past summers America 250 celebration in the nations capital.

The next Roy Rogers statue fundraiser is set for Thursday night, December 10th, at the Majestic Theatre in Chillicothe. Full details coming soon.

The Steve Hayes Media “Citizen of the Day” for Friday, September 18th, is Andy Glockner!

Andy Glockner is the fifth generation leader and now a retired past president of Glockner Enterprises and a lifelong community supporter at many different levels. His sons have now became the 6th generation of Glockners to lead a business family that began in 1847!

Over the years he and his family have championed many of the local causes in our area and around the region by always prioritizing community support with faith and family values to fuel his endeavors.

Outside of his automotive retail legacy, Andy has helped initiate new economic upstarts in the area that helped to create new business ventures and opportunities for many.

Some of his civic involvement still include being on various boards including Portsmouth Main Street, River Days, and the Portsmouth Murals.

When not spending quality time with his large family, you might occasionally see him out on a fishing boat somewhere down on the Ohio River.

The Steve Hayes Media “Citizens of the Day!” for Thursday, September 17th are Sue Welty and Betty Welty Martin!

Again, we can’t have one without the other as these two vibrant sisters and their volunteer pedigree to the community is without question.

Known locally as “The Bag Ladies” they are lifelong residents of Portsmouth and from the large and well known Welty Family which also includes retired “Bag Sister” Mary Martha Questel.

For years, these ladies have had a rigid routine of going through the streets of Portsmouth and picking up litter to help beautify our town.

On Monday, they pick up trash in Tracy Park. On Wednesday and Friday they can be found in various parts of the city taking it to the streets and fighting litter “one bag at a time!”

Both sisters are extremely active in local preservation and community development with Main Street Portsmouth and various local history preservation groups!

Reds shell Snell early and take command postponing the Champaign shower for LA winning 6-2 and snapping a 10 game losing streak to the Dodgers.

Elly homers yet again and it ways also a dinger from Meyers for the night. Sal Stewart finally woke up and contributed a big night offensively as well.

De La Cruz with his two-run homer on Wednesday gives him 28 on the year with 7 alone during the month of September.

When Work Becomes a real “Grind” and a Spectacular Light Show As Well!

First of all, I want to thank my media cub reporter Mark Riddlebarger who provided our page with a sight few have ever seen, or completely understood.

If you have witnessed strange illuminations and sparks falling from the Sciotoville Train Tressel at night lately, just know that we are fine.

It’s not Doc Brown trying to land his flying locomotive on a historical futuristic landing pad!

“Rail Grinding” is as maintenance method used by the railroad involving computer-guided, laser equipped machines that are used to reshape the steel rails at heavy speed!

It’s actually a process that goes back to the mid 1950s to remold the tracks and remove deformities caused by the heavy use of of the trains over time.

Because this process involves grinding steel against steel, it generates a massive shower of sparks. In Scioto County and surrounding Southern Ohio areas, this maintenance process has occasionally caused notable community disruptions.

As you can guess, track fires are a definite possibility using this method and that’s why all safety precautions are observed including onboard water misting and suppression systems to prevent fires.

Also cleaning the tracks at night is done for lower disturbances to the area when train traffic is lighter.

So, all aboard and enjoy the ride!

Former Scioto County Commissioner Bryan Davis was sentenced today following his recent guilty plea in the major public corruption and kickback scheme.

Davis was accused of Theft in Office, Receiving stolen property involving public funds, and Filing an incomplete or false tax return.

His wife Lori also pleaded guilty to a single felony count of Tampering with evidence.

State Prosecutors were asking for an active prison sentence while Davis’s attorneys were pushing for 5 years of community controlled probation.

The sentence delivered against Bryan Davis was imprisonment 30 months for theft in office and 11 months for filing a false tax return. Both sentences are set up to run concurrently. He was also ordered to pay back $67,000 in restitution.

His wife Lori received 2 years of community controlled probation.

Visiting Judge D. Dean Evans handed down the sentence in the Scioto County Common Pleas Court this morning.
