Hello everyone! I am the current editor in chief of Green Mountain College's student written, student led newspaper, The Mountaineer. We have, in the past year plus, made leaps and bounds towards becoming a viable and important source of news for the student body.

That being said, we cannot exist without participation and content from YOU, GMC students! Please feel free to submit science articles, social justice articles, photos of events, or videos. In particular, in light of the raising of the Black Lives Matter flag and the community conversation that took place after, we are looking specifically for people of color to share their voices, reactions and experiences to this and other issues on campus. That being said -- allies, this is your time to voice support as well! Feel free to message any thoughts, feelings, questions or concerns, here or via email at [email protected].

I encourage you to check out our website at mountaineer4.wixsite.com/themountaineer -- and keep your eyes open for our next print edition, coming soon! Enjoy your long weekend!

"The first issue of The Mountaineer, the Green Mountain College student newspaper, appeared in the 1937-38 school year. The paper continues to be published today, making it one of the most venerable institutions on campus. Trang Cao ’15, an international student from Hanoi, Vietnam, hopes that The Stream, a new student-run video channel, will have the same longevity and impact." Congratulations graduates!

This past Saturday Green Mountain College welcomed the class of 2013 at the 176th Commencement ceremony. The weather held until minutes after the graduation had concluded and family, friends, faculty, staff and trustees were able to witness our newest alumni class receive their diplomas outside.

Pictured here is Kimberly Blank '13 receiving a well-deserved congratulatory hug from President Paul Fonteyn. Thanks to alumna Svea Miller '07 for capturing this great moment!

Congratulations to the graduates!

Green Mountain College English and Writing Programs

Green Mountain College is honored to welcome back one of our favorite poets, David Budbill, for a special reading on the evening of Monday, April 22nd, at 7:00 PM in the East Room.

Budbill has become internationally known for his unmistakable poetic voice, which blends a distinctive sense of humor and lessons from the cycles of rural life with the compassion and expansive vision of Buddhism—all embedded in the beauty of the Green Mountains. Budbill’s poems are regularly featured on Garrison Keillor’s Writers Almanac, and his latest collection of poetry is Happy Life (2012).

In addition to his reading on Monday evening, he will attend a staged reading of his iconic play, Judevine, at the Tiny Theater at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 23rd.

Don’t miss it!

Ms. Dianne Dillon-Ridgley, a national and international leader in environmental sustainability, will be the 2013 Commencement speaker.

Ms. Dillon-Ridgley was appointed to the U.S. delegation for the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, to the 1997 United Nations General Assembly Special Session (also known as the "Earth Summit+5") in New York, and to the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in South Africa, making her the only person to serve on all three American delegations.

She is founding chair-emeritus of Plains Justice, an environmental law center for the Great Plains states. She is chair of the board of trustees for the Center for International Environmental Law, served as national chair of the Population Connection, and is a board member of the Women's Network for a Sustainable Future.
