May 29th was the date for 2025 Guac Your World rooftop taco competition at Corrigan Station. Partygoers enjoyed delicious tacos, margaritas and mocktails, guac and chips, raffles, artists, music, and dancing. Proceeds support the organization’s mission to serve our community’s older adults.

The spectacular Health Systems Gala was held at The Abbott on April 18th, with a theme of “The Candlelight Club,” a swanky, one-night-only speakeasy in a gala. Thanks to Honorary Co-chairs Brian Dunn and Mike Comer, and Event Chairs Jennifer and Rob Welker, the evening was a gorgeous success raising funds to support KVC Health Systems’ work to strengthen families and promote mental wellness for children in our community.

May 2nd was the date for Cause-ino Night at Arrowhead Stadium. The fourth annual event featured a “Vegas” theme, and more than 300 guests enjoyed fun games, great decor, and the ability to help support the mission of Job One, which is to create employment opportunities and meaningful days for adults with disabilities.

The spectacular KVC Gala was held at The Abbott on April 18th, with a theme of “The Candlelight Club,” a swanky, one-night-only speakeasy in a gala. With a theme of “Seis de Mayo,” the Fireside Committee of the Kansas City Art Institute Institute hosted its annual Spring Luncheon on May 6th at Vanderslice Hall on the campus. Drinks on the patio were followed by lunch and chatting with guests, Dr. Peggy Shannon of KCAI and scholarship recipient, Jaden Green.

The Jewel Ball Prelude Party was held on June 5th at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. This lovely gathering kicked off the official Jewel Ball season of festivities, culminating with the Ball, which was held on June 21st at the Museum. Peggy Rooney served as the chairman, and Paget Higgins was the honorary chairman.

In late June, the historic district of 18th & Vine comes alive with Pride on the Vine, bringing a fresh sound and energy. Music from a full lineup of Black LGBTQ+ performers livens the mood, while revelers in costumes, food trucks, and festive decor bring fun and flavor to the block party in the street.
The celebration is now going strong in its fifth year. Created by Quez Beasley, director of the 18th & Vine Arts Festival Foundation, the event has grown into a mainstay of Kansas City’s Pride Month calendar.
