We had an incredible weekend at the Blue Ridge Brawl, co-hosted by Sugarloaf Polocrosse Club and Heartland Polocrosse Club! Our Willow Pond players competed across EVERY grade, and we came home incredibly proud — not just of the placings, but of the growth we saw all weekend long.

And then there was our D Grade crew — Kate, Lisa & Coley. They didn’t win a single game this weekend… and we are SO dang proud of them. 💚 They fought. They competed. They kept riding. Their horses learned, players grew, and they walked off the field having accomplished so many of the personal goals they came into the weekend with. Success doesn’t always show up on the scoreboard.

That was really the theme for our entire Willow Pond crew this weekend. Before games, we set individual goals — and then we celebrated them.

A pickup at speed.
Catching in the lineup.
Making a goal.
Taking the shot.
Playing stronger defense.
And for some, simply getting out there, riding confidently and competing.

And our favorite part? The sidelines. 🥹

There was SO much cheering, helping, volunteering, supporting, celebrating and genuine excitement for each other’s successes.

We are incredibly proud of all our teams, grateful to Sugarloaf and Heartland for a fantastic weekend, and so thankful for this little polocrosse community we’re building. 💕🖤💚

Now we take everything we learned home, keep practicing, keep growing — and get ready because OUR WILLOW POND TOURNAMENT IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER! 🎃

We are SO excited to have 10 Willow Pond Polocrosse players hitting the field this weekend!

Even more exciting — several of our players will be competing in their very FIRST tournament!
And Willow Pond will be represented in EVERY grade. From our newest competitors getting their first taste of tournament polocrosse to our more experienced players stepping onto the field, we couldn’t be prouder of this crew.

We can’t wait to cheer them ALL on and make some memories this weekend!

We are incredibly grateful for their generous donation to Willow Pond Polocrosse Club and for becoming an Award Sponsor for our upcoming tournament in October! 🏆🐴

Their support of Willow Pond goes far beyond sponsorship. The Layfield team also cares for several of our club members horses and has become an incredibly important part of our equine athlete program. Keeping our horses feeling their best, performing their best, and enjoying the sport is always our priority—and having a veterinary team we trust is a huge part of that.

After representing the USA U19 team in South Africa, Lilly continued her journey with the USA Open Squad in Zambia and Zimbabwe.

At just 16, she stepped onto unfamiliar fields, rode new horses, learned to adapt quickly, competed bravely, and kept learning every step of the way.

One of the most valuable parts of this experience was having the opportunity to play alongside and against more experienced players. Being surrounded by athletes who have competed at the highest levels gave Lilly mentors to watch, learn from, ask questions, and lean on. Those relationships and lessons are helping shape not only the player she is becoming, but the horsewoman and teammate she is growing into.

International polocrosse takes more than skill and talent. It demands confidence, horsemanship, grit, adaptability, and the determination to keep finding ways to grow and become stronger. The work doesn’t stop when the tour ends.

If anything, experiences like this show you exactly where the next level of work begins. You come home with new goals, new expectations, things to improve, and an even bigger drive to put in the hours. The opportunity is incredible—but what you do with everything you learned afterward matters just as much. We’re incredibly proud of Lilly and can’t wait to see what she does next!

Thank you to everyone in South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe who shared horses, knowledge, encouragement, advise, and friendship. These memories—and the people who helped create them—will stay with her forever. 🇿🇦🇿🇲🇿🇼

The Eastern Shore Classic takes over Willow Pond Farm October 30–November 1! We’ll kick things off with Friday night polocrosse, play all weekend, then trade helmets for costumes Saturday night when the DJ turns it up and we dance the night away! 👻

Go funny, spooky, outrageous, or completely over the top—we want to see your best costume ideas!

This is a fun, non-sanctioned, individual-format tournament: register yourself, bring multiple horses if you’d like, and we’ll build the teams. It’s the perfect weekend for new players, returning members, and anyone ready to get back on the field!

Registration is coming soon—and early entries could win tournament playing balls and other fun prizes!
