Second-year Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about young players in the league and collectors are taking notice.

After helping lead New England to a share of first place with the Bills, Maye’s confidence, arm strength, and composure have translated into wins and rising demand for his football cards.

According to Sports Card Investor, Maye’s rookie cards are among the most searched in the hobby this month. Recent sales show how wide the market has become from affordable base rookies to rare collector’s pieces. A 2024 Panini Prizm base rookie has sold in the $6–$20 range, while a Donruss Downtown insert recently went for over $550. The ultra-rare Prizm Gold Vinyl /5 even fetched around $26,000, showing how strong high-end demand is for Maye’s early cards.

More common versions like Panini Select or Phoenix Rookie Rising can still be found for under $10, making them accessible options for fans betting on his long-term success. With impressive college stats more than 3,600 passing yards and 33 total touchdowns at North Carolina and a promising start in New England, Maye’s cards are viewed as one of the most intriguing investments in football right now.

Collectors can even check out a wide range of Maye cards today at the New England for the Hobby Card Show, taking place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Smithfield Elks Lodge, 326 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, Rhode Island. The show features 40 tables, 26 vendors, raffles, and family-friendly fun. Admission is $3 for adults, and kids under 12 get in free. 🏈🏟️

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Thousands gathered outside the Rhode Island State House on Saturday afternoon for the “No Kings” rally, part of a series of coordinated demonstrations taking place in cities across the country this weekend. Demonstrators expressed opposition to several of President Trump’s policies, focusing on issues such as the state of democracy, federal immigration enforcement, and the use of military forces in U.S. cities.
Participants in Providence carried signs, chanted slogans, and listened to speeches focused on civic engagement and accountability among elected officials. The demonstration remained peaceful, and Providence police reported no incidents. Across the country, nearly 2,600 rallies were planned in cities including Boston, Washington D.C., and New York. Saturday’s events marked the second major nationwide rally, with the first held on June 14, 2025. The June demonstrations were organized to coincide with the U.S. Army’s 250th Anniversary Parade in Washington, D.C., which also marked President Trump’s 79th birthday. 👀🇺🇸

A tragic incident at a residential youth school in Swansea has claimed the life of a staff member from East Providence.

Authorities say 53-year-old Amy Morrell, a La Salle Academy alum, died Thursday after being kicked by a 14-year-old student during an altercation Wednesday evening at Meadowridge Academy, a therapeutic residential school for youth with mental health and behavioral challenges.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the teen was attempting to leave a dorm building without permission around 6:55 p.m. Wednesday when staff, including Morrell, tried to restrain her. During the struggle, prosecutors say the girl kicked Morrell in the chest, causing her to collapse. Staff immediately began CPR, and Morrell was rushed to a local hospital, where she remained overnight before being pronounced dead Thursday afternoon.

An investigation was launched by Swansea Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office. The initial investigation led to the juvenile being charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury. She was arraigned Thursday morning in Fall River Juvenile Court.

The District Attorney’s Office said “the investigation remains active and ongoing,” but did not say whether any additional charges are expected following Morrell’s death.

In a statement, Meadowridge Academy described Morrell as a dedicated direct care staff member and said they were “deeply saddened” by her passing.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Amy’s family during this difficult time,” the school said. “Support services and resources are available to assist students and staff as we grieve this tragic loss.”

Morrell, who lived in Riverside, R.I., and graduated from La Salle Academy, was known for her compassion and commitment to helping young people. Meadowridge Academy is operated by the Justice Resource Institute.

Our condolences go out to Amy Morrell’s family, friends, and colleagues during this heartbreaking time.

A former Santander Bank employee from East Providence is facing federal charges after investigators say he stole $126,000 from a 78-year-old man with dementia.

According to court documents, Carlos Bras worked at the Santander branch in Seekonk in 2023, where he allegedly changed the victim’s PIN, created a new online account, and had debit cards and checks mailed to his own home.

From April through July of that year, prosecutors say Bras transferred tens of thousands of dollars into his wife’s account, used $16,000 to buy a Kia, made retail purchases, and wired large amounts of money to Portugal, all using his bank employee credentials.

When questioned, Bras reportedly claimed the customer was present during the transactions, but surveillance video told a different story. The case was turned over to Seekonk Police after a Santander investigator uncovered the activity.

Bras is now charged with bank fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft.

Brown University President Christina Paxson has officially declined an invitation from the White House to join its proposed Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education, saying it would limit academic freedom and threaten the university’s independence.

In a letter sent Oct. 15, Paxson said parts of the Compact would “restrict academic freedom and undermine the autonomy of Brown’s governance,” warning that tying research funding to political or non-academic standards could “damage the health and prosperity of Americans.”

Instead, Brown will continue honoring a separate July 30 federal agreement that supports equal opportunity, nondiscrimination, and local workforce development — without compromising academic independence.

“While we value our partnership with the federal government, Brown is respectfully declining to join the Compact,” Paxson said. “We remain committed to our mission and to preserving the principles that have defined American higher education.”

Rhode Island is officially home to one of the best college soccer programs in the country. The Bryant University Bulldogs have climbed to No. 2 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25, marking the highest national ranking in school history and making Bryant the only ranked NCAA team in any sport across all of New England.

The Bulldogs’ rise has been nothing short of remarkable. After sitting at No. 17 just weeks ago, Bryant has surged through the ranks thanks to an 11-game unbeaten streak, including a dominant 5–0 win over UAlbany that featured five different goal scorers. That performance was the most goals scored in a single game by any America East team this season.

Behind that success is a lockdown defense that has allowed just five goals all year, and an offense that’s averaging over two goals per game. Goalkeeper Enzo Carvalho leads the conference with five shutouts and an 84% save rate, while Mamadi Jiana continues to power the attack with five goals and one of the top shot totals in the America East. Marc Pitarch Bayot has been the playmaker, leading the league in assists.

Bryant (11-0-1) will look to keep the streak alive with a stretch of big matchups including a trip to Princeton and a massive home game vs. defending national champions Vermont on October 25th.

With a win or even a tie, Bryant could make history once again and become the No. 1 ranked men’s soccer team in the country right from Smithfield, Rhode Island. ⚽️🥅😲

State agencies working as one cohesive group with local media can be problematic. The media is meant to report points AND counterpoints. When they don’t, defendants look incredibly guilty as they puppet statements made by government officials. Lives can be ruined in this way.

Karen Read just beat a murder charge twice in MA. Our local media outlets covered those trials and Aidan Kearney of Turtleboy proved to be the driving force in the press to offset the balance of the unholy cohesive state/media alliance.

Recent discovery shows that politicians and RIDOT employees were trying to influence the forensics report done by Wiss Janney Elstner last spring. Suggested edits by RIDOT attached here show that. It would also appear that WJE was hired by Michael Baker and not RIDOT. Michael Baker is one of the 13 companies being sued here. Why use them as middlemen? Does this create legal cover in some way?

Our motive for breaking up the report was to give each talking point in the forensic study the attention they deserved. Our agenda should be even more clear. While RI tries this case for the next two years we can expect to pay more for our infrastructure projects, roughly 20% more historically. Bids that only receive one bidder end up costing the state more money in the end. We need competition, these lawsuits do not help us in the end and are shortsighted political chess moves. Will the $100 million plus that the state hopes to get offset that increased 20% cost to all projects? Have they even considered this?

People deserve the truth upfront and lower taxes in the end. The state’s current process does not seem to be getting us there. ⚠️🚙🛣️🚜
