On July 30 Brown signed a resolution agreement with the government to restore major federal research funding. Weeks later, the White House offered the “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education,” which was ultimately rejected by the university.

Though there is no crystal ball for the future, the BAM reached out to faculty, students, and experts to understand different views on what the agreement may mean for the university. While some feel the deal reflects a savvy bit of deal making, others think the agreement is giving up Brown’s “mortal soul,” and still others feel that “Brown got off easy.”
