Live, from the basement of Joseph Hall … it’s WDOM 91.3fm! At least it was in the early 1980s, when Marty Moran ’83 and Tory Ryden ’86 were among a group of students playing music, providing news updates, and broadcasting hockey games.
Like many of their contemporaries, Ryden, a journalist and communications professional, and Moran, a professional voice-over artist, used those experiences, combined with their PC educational experiences, as the foundation for careers in communications.
This podcast previews an Alumni and Family Weekend panel discussion, also featuring John Hennessy ’82, on the impact and legacy of WDOM, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

Thomas Zinzarella '21 is a Providence College sophomore from Connecticut who is working hard to prepare for a career in sports media. In addition to broadcasting games on WDOM 91.3fm radio and the FOX Sports Digital Network, he has landed a play-by-play job for the upcoming Cape Cod Baseball League season. In this podcast, Zinzarella talks about his broadcasting role models, his extensive networking activities, and those PC faculty members who are helping him work toward achieving his goals.

Congratulations. Today for the first time, I tuned you guys on the radio of my car. Let me tell you, finally I can hear good and different music from one track to the other. Since I came to the country, from Portugal, my favorite station has been 94.1 HJY, also was 95.5 WBRU but they disappeared. I love all types of music. Classic rock, 80s, Alternative, New music, Jazz,(Smooth, Fusion, Classic ) Country, Folk, Blues, Blue Grass, some Disco, Funky, Reggae and only a little of Hip Pop. My favorite musician, is Frank Zappa, Brian Ferry, Jim Morrison, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and much more. But I have herd this bands for over 40 years!! I'm very happy and surprised with you guys for the reason you played different songs and musicians even dough I herd Led Zeppelin and my favorite singer, Robert Plant but at least you guys play different songs from the usual ones that, 94.1 WHJY plays sames songs during years and years and years. An album has 12 or more tracks showing to me you guys will use most all the tracks of an album instead play only one or 2 songs every day, weeks, months or even years like most of the radio stations in RI, do. For example: Why play all the time the same song of Rolling Stones, when they have so many albums and hundreds of different tracks. It's always the same bands and the same songs!! So, today, all day I herd you guys. Keep up with good music. Do you know something? Being Rhode Island an Ocean State, full of beaches, waterfront restaurants, Golf Courses, sailing lifestyle etc etc, has no Jazz on any radio station!! I believe it could be very good to Rhode Island to have on Sundays, especially, a very good Jazz radio station. What do you guys think? Sorry about my english.
