Sounds for the curious listener. Listen live at bsrlive.com or on 101.1FM LP-Providence Brown Student & Community Radio. Values:
1. Get involved!
"The Brown Network" began in 1936 as the first student-run radio station in the country. It was a carrier-current AM station broadcasting to Brown dorms. Eventually the station's name was changed to "WBRU-AM." In 1966, some of the station's members secured a loan from the University and founded the radio station WBRU-FM (95.5), while others continued the student-oriented AM tradition. WBRU-FM beca
me a commercial corporation, financially and legally separate from Brown University, while WBRU-AM continued to operate for the Brown community and surrounding areas in the college radio tradition. The AM signal in time became virtually inaudible. During the mid-1990s, a few students worked to find a new, more audible outlet for those still broadcasting in the older, experimental, student tradition. In 1997, WBRU-AM became "Brown Student Radio" (BSR) and started broadcasting on WELH-FM (88.1). WELH-FM, owned by the Wheeler School, was sold to another organization in 2010, leaving BSR to broadcast solely on bsrlive.com. Now, BSR is in the process of acquiring a low-power FM license for 101.1 FM and we are ecstatic to be back on the air. The name "WBSR" has been used as a nickname on occasion, but the FCC prohibits us from using that name until we have been granted a license with those call letters. Localism - We love our city and state!
2. Education - Spread knowledge and ideas!
3. Diversity - Different is great!
4. Entertainment - Have fun and a sense of humor!
5. Public Participation - Get into it!

Big News!
Brown Student and Community Radio recently applied for and received a permit to construct and independently operate a Low Power FM station on 101.1 FM. We intend to have the station up and running by the end of 2017. Due to the recent departure of BRU from their FM format, some BRU staffers have approached us and expressed interest in continuing their programming on this new station. BSR is ready and willing to incorporate new voices to supplement existing content and fill out a 24-hour broadcast day. We are super excited to finally get back on the air and into the community.
More info to come!

Why I Deleted Your Band's Promo Email
This is the line that made me delete your band's promo email.
"Claiming they were a detriment to broadcasting, NPR lobbied aggressively to destroy these small-fry noncommercial competitors, who were often forced to disband or convert to closed-circuit (campus-only) format. By the early nineties, college radio was squeezed to pathetic micropower status."
