DePoalo plans to tear down Bubala's and build a 3-story complex that will include a restaurant along with 10 condos.

CRIME - Police Had Leads on Two Trucks After Hit-and-Run

Search warrants show police didn’t examine the second truck for 11 months

District Attorney Galibois has called for an inquest in the case of the hit-and-run death of Timothy Duval Jr. 16 months ago, reports Tyler Jager. Early on, Wellfleet police had leads on two pickup trucks that could have been involved; one was searched, then a long lag in the investigation ensued.

WOMEN’S WORK - Stitching Against the System

Stephanie Cave finds what’s revolutionary in both traditional and modern quilting

In a culture obsessed with industrial speed, mass production, and making as much money as possible, piecing together hundreds of fabric scraps by hand seems almost like a revolutionary act. And that’s just what it is for Stephanie Cave, a textile artist and quilt repair specialist who lives in Provincetown.

COLLECTORS - An Education in Paintings

Todd Perry shows the Provincetown art that has found him over the last 40 years

By day, Todd Perry is a carpenter and general contractor who works on projects across Cape Cod and beyond. Wearing his signature trucker cap, he’s likely to be found loading his pickup at a lumberyard in Harwich or framing additions in tonier parts of Chatham or Wellfleet. But on his own time, he’s an aesthete with a deep knowledge of the art history of the Outer Cape.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - Three Historic Homes Will Be Leased in a Public Contest

Cheap rents might be tempting, but leaseholders must foot the bill for serious repairs

The Cape Cod National Seashore is offering to lease two historic homes in Wellfleet and one in Truro for as little as $830 a month. But bargain-seekers will have to take on a much bigger bill: restoring the buildings, which could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

GROUNDWATER - Eastham Pumps the Brakes on Cesspool Replacement Rules

Demetri asks for a ‘more robust program for helping offset costs’

There are 240 cesspools in use in Eastham, 54 of them in environmentally sensitive areas, and only four of those are on properties set to be on the new sewer system. Parker Mumford reports on why the town's health director recommends that the board of health slow-walk an effort to get those cesspools out of the ground.

EASTHAM — The board of health is awaiting a town counsel-approved final draft of a series of proposed new regulations, which the board plans to present for approval in a […]

WHEELS OF JUSTICE - Holding Delgizzi Accountable Is Getting Harder

The notoriously delinquent landlord benefits from new rules for tax foreclosure

How is it possible that tax-dodging landlord David Delgizzi was able to pay $900,000 in cash for a house with a pond view in Brewster when he owed Truro and Eastham (and several other towns) hundreds of thousands in back taxes? Reporter Lauren Hakimi looks into the way a 2024 state law is making it nearly impossible for towns to win against scofflaws like Delgizzi.

TRURO — The town has spent seven years — five of them in Land Court — trying to take a house at 18 Priest Road that has been condemned since […]
