It was a busy night for local law enforcement.

According to Pryor Police Chief Jeremy Cantrell, officers responded to a hit-and-run involving a mailbox and later located the suspect at a local park.

Chief Cantrell said the driver was intoxicated, refused to cooperate with officers, and fled on foot. During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly threw what appeared to be a pistol into a nearby pond before being taken into custody.

GRDA Lake Patrol Officer Tyler Brown confirmed they are assisting in the search of the pond for the object believed to have been a pistol.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Fast, reliable fiber internet is coming to Pryor.

Bluepeak representatives met with residents Thursday evening at The District to discuss plans for their fiber internet buildout in Pryor. According to company officials, the entire buildout is expected to take approximately five months to complete, although some areas may see service become available much sooner.

As construction begins across the community, residents will likely start seeing crews working in different parts of town as the network is installed.

We’ll continue following the project and provide updates as service becomes available in different areas of Pryor.

Oklahoma’s Governor just made a surprise stop in Pryor… and let’s just say he didn’t come quietly.

Kevin Stitt told the crowd he will leave nearly $4 billion in savings to the next governor and declared that “The American Dream is alive in Oklahoma!”

And yes… The PiP was there. 👀

The full story, and what Governor Stitt had to say about Oklahoma’s future will be in Sunday’s edition of The PiP.

The PiP is more than a newspaper to us. We try our best to be part of Mayes County, support Mayes County, and maybe add a little fun to downtown along the way.

Today’s sidewalk soundtrack spilling out onto Adair Street, mixed with all the folks who stopped by the office, made a rainy day feel a whole lot less rainy.

The newest edition of The PiP is officially out on the shelves. And no… you usually won’t find us sitting up on the fancy top rack. We’re down there on the bottom shelf where you’ve gotta hunt a little for the local news. Honestly, we kinda like it that way.

Truth be told, we had no clue what we were doing when we started digital news… and somehow knew even less when we started printing a newspaper. But with every edition we learn something new, meet more people, and keep trying to make it better.

Thank you to everyone who supports us through store sales, subscriptions, advertising, stopping by the office, honking on Adair, or simply sharing our stories. The PiP wouldn’t exist without this community behind it.

Now go dig around on those bottom shelves and grab a copy.
