A live announcer and emcee is ALWAYS moving to the ever-changing tempo of a live event... but when you're doing it right, the audience never senses a shift in rhythm. 🎤

Keep the event flowing and do NOT add stress for the event producer....that's the art of my job.

And when a client specifically calls out how smoothly things flowed at the Apex Chamber of Commerce Run the Peak 5K/10K - winner calls, last-minute pivots, crowd energy start to finish - that's not just a nice review.

That's game, set and match for me as an event host!!

Glad the only thing they took home was a great experience.

For the voice actors around me...

IN MY VOICEOVER CLASSES, I harp (nag, pester, cajole, repeat ad nauseam) about the importance of PHYSICALITY in voice acting.

Newbies resist it and even some pros downplay it.

Well, I won't call THEM stupid but I will say the attitude IS stupid.

Now I'll *show* you WHY that attitude of yours is so stupid, you nonphysicalers. (I should call my classes "Insults and Education" - students would lined up for days).

Anyway, here is a Broadway star - IN A RECORDING STUDIO - making a record.

Analyze what is happening. Take inventory of what is happening and what is NOT happening.

This Broadway actor is not playing off any other actors, not focused on choreography --- he's just focused on the meaning and emotion of the scene, the lyrics, the music and HIS characters expressed thoughts (via the song).

Can we agree on all that? Yes? Good.

Now....

Watch his face. Watch his eyes. Watch his ARMS.

If he JUST used his voice....just his obvious musical talent...just his encyclopedic knowledge of the script and story --- do you think he would have given a better or worse performance given the physicality of how he performed??

What he is doing is using ALL HIS TOOLS (Mental, Physical, Spiritual and Emotional) to elicit his best performance --- a performance, by the way, that will live the longest for him.

Broadway shows are nightly. Soundtracks are forever.

Use all your tools and use them all the time, everytime.

Woke up before sunrise on a Saturday for a race I wasn't running... and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I had the privilege of serving as Live Announcer and Emcee for the Apex (NC) Chamber of Commerce's Run The Peak 10K & 5K. I've been doing live event hosting and emceeing for decades, but this one reminded me of something I had almost forgotten.

I ran into old friends I hadn't seen in a while. I met amazing new people. And I got to be the voice that sent hundreds of runners toward their finish line.

That's not a job. That's a gift.

First time as the PA ANNOUNCER 🎤 for a baseball game - my son’s high school team. (I’ve done other sports).

A couple of minor mistakes but nothing that will get me fired —- mostly because it’s a baseball parent “voluntold”position 😆😆😆

Glad to help support the team.

A Da’s work is *never* done. 🙂

PS We won.

Saturday was a blast! 🎤

I had the honor of emceeing / live announcing the 5th Annual Run the Peak presented by the Apex Chamber of Commerce.

750+ runners and fans, 3 hours, and one very enthusiastic announcer.

Spoiler: it's more work than it looks. But when the client says everybody was happy, sponsors, runners, the crowd, that's all you really need to hear. Huge thanks to the Apex Chamber of Commerce for having me!

Last night I was called into service again, teaching to Wendy Zier's class at Theatre Raleigh ACT in The Studio!!!

Much like last week with Tennessee Voice Over Studios LLC I did NOT make any of the student cry. 😉😄

It was a great time had by all!
