When given the choice…

Would you rather throw a bunch of maybe-not-so-relevant information at children hoping something sticks?

Teach them to know where and how to find the answers, help them develop into creative independent thinkers and lifelong learners?

I’m fully aware and incredibly grateful for the position of privilege we are in.

To have one parent at home and make homeschooling work on one income.

We do not have extended family in the US. We don’t have that help.

We don’t live in the biggest house.

We don’t live beyond our means.

We don’t have lavish vacations.

We focus on micro adventures.

Any choice you make for you and your family comes with sacrifices.

Reclaiming my children’s childhood has been 100% worth it.

Years ago we read Wonder by R.J. Palacio and even hosted a little book-club celebration with friends (followed by a movie watch).

We have to thank for introducing us to the magic of book parties. 🥹 📚✨

In Wonder, Mr. Browne gives his students a new precept each month — a short life rule to help them think about kindness, character, and who they want to become.

He tells the kids 👇🏼

“Precepts are rules about really important things.”

My 9-year-old has been loving choosing a quote from 365 Days of Wonder (also by R.J. Palacio) for her copywork.

But the best part isn’t the handwriting, it’s the conversations that follow. We talk about what the quote means, research the author, and chase whatever rabbit trails curiosity sparks.
