We just finished recording one of the toughest interviews I have ever had to sit through.

There were moments when I genuinely struggled to find words for what I was hearing. Some stories are heartbreaking. Some make you angry. And some remind you just how desperately this world needs God, compassion, and humanity.

This one was heavy on my heart, but God puts us in places for a reason, and sometimes that means giving a voice to stories that are incredibly difficult to hear.

We owe y'all an apology. We know we've been a little behind on getting your episodes out... but sometimes being a podcast host is like being a parent.

🚨 UPDATE: A MAJOR DEVELOPMENT IN OSCAR'S PRISON EMAIL CENSORSHIP LAWSUIT 🚨

When we first shared Oscar's story, he explained why he believes prison messages are being censored without notice or due process. Now, there's a significant update.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina has allowed his lawsuit to proceed. This time, the case is directed at the NCDAC Secretary of Institutions, meaning the claims challenge policies that apply across North Carolina correctional facilities, rather than a single prison.

Oscar alleges that messages are being blocked without notice or an opportunity to challenge the decision, a case that could have important implications for prison communication and due process.

One of our own messages that was censored may even become part of the evidence presented in the case.

🚨 WAS THERE REALLY A PROTEST AT ALEXANDER CORRECTIONAL? 🚨

The headlines reported that more than 60 incarcerated men refused orders to leave the recreation yard, but Jack, who says he was there, tells a very different story.

According to his firsthand account, the men were not protesting and were not refusing to return inside. Jack describes being held on the yard for hours without an explanation, the arrival of the Prison Emergency Response Team (PERT) and the treatment the men allegedly experienced afterward.

This is why Inmate Tea goes beyond the headlines. We don’t stop with the official statement, we speak directly with the people who were there and give them an opportunity to tell what they witnessed.

🚨 NC PRISONS ARE REACHING A BREAKING POINT. 🚨

Within just days, two major incidents unfolded inside North Carolina prisons:

📌 At Alexander Correctional Institution, more than 60 incarcerated people refused to return to their housing areas in protest, leading to a facility-wide lockdown.

📌 At Scotland Correctional Institution, a fight involving 15 incarcerated people left five injured and placed parts of the prison on lockdown.

These are not isolated incidents. They are warning signs of a prison system being pushed beyond its limits by severe understaffing, overcrowding, unsafe conditions and treatment that many incarcerated people and their families describe as inhumane.

When people are packed into overcrowded facilities, staff are stretched dangerously thin and concerns continue to go unheard, tensions eventually reach a boiling point. That does not excuse violence, but ignoring the conditions contributing to this crisis will only guarantee that more people get hurt.

Accountability and humane treatment can exist at the same time. Correctional officers deserve safe working conditions. Incarcerated people deserve basic dignity and protection. Families deserve transparency when their loved ones may be in danger.

Inmate Tea with A&P will be covering these developing stories as soon as we can speak directly with our sources inside and allow them to share their firsthand experiences, because that is what we do. We go beyond the headlines and give a voice to the people living through these conditions every day.

North Carolina cannot keep responding to every crisis with another lockdown. State leaders must address the understaffing, overcrowding and deteriorating conditions before the next incident ends in tragedy.
