Matt Sowers grew up playing basketball at Daniel Boone, from first grade through 12th grade. His family has deep roots in Boone basketball, and now he's returning to his alma mater as the Blazers' new girls basketball head coach. 🏀

Sowers knows the history of Daniel Boone basketball and he's embracing the challenge of helping restore it.

The final Berks Bests feature is Exeter’s Grace Reedy, who finished her career as the Eagles’ all-time leading scorer with 1,403 points. 🏀⭐

Reedy helped lead Exeter to back-to-back Berks II titles and BCIAA playoff appearances, and its first District 3 playoff appearance in nine years. She also became the first Exeter girls basketball player selected to an All-State team.

Now studying nursing at Pitt, Reedy still follows the Eagles and is proud of the role she played in the program’s recent rise.

Tulpehocken has hired Blue Mountain graduate and Schuylkill County native Skylar Sheriff as its next girls basketball head coach. 🏀

After spending time on the Blue Mountain boys basketball staff and building the Schuylkill Select AAU program, Sheriff lands his first varsity head coaching opportunity.

Before there was a 3-point line in Pennsylvania girls basketball, Zena Edwards Lutz was filling up the scorebook. 🏀⭐

When the Hamburg standout graduated in 1985, she was Berks County's all-time leading scorer with 2,231 career points, while playing with the larger boys basketball.

She went on to star at Mount St. Mary's, earn Hall of Fame honors in both basketball and softball, and later returned to coach at her alma mater.

More than 40 years later, Edwards Lutz still ranks No. 3 on the Berks all-time scoring list and remains the Hawks' all-time leading scorer.

Muhlenberg has its new girls basketball head coach. 🏀

Greg Clarke has been named the Muhls' girls basketball head coach following a winless 2025-26 season.

A veteran coach with more than two decades of experience at the high school, collegiate and AAU levels, Clarke is focused on rebuilding the program through accountability, communication, and player development.

Rashida Suber rewrote the record books at Reading High. 🏀⭐

Now back where it all started as the Red Knights' head coach, Suber recently reflected on her legendary basketball journey in the latest installment of our Berks Bests summer series.
