This evening 8/19/2026 At Supervisor Allen Long’s District 2 town hall, Shasta County CEO Dave Rickert addressed Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis’ publicly stated plans to bring former Colorado Clerk Tina Peters into the Shasta County elections office. Rickert did not mention Peters by name.

Rickert said no formal request has been made to the County, adding that all county hiring procedures and contracting policies will be followed.

BREAKING: Five Days After Censure, Shasta County Registrar Says He Plans to Hire Tina Peters as Assistant ROV

Five days after being censured by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors over his conduct involving employees, Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis said Sunday on *Jefferson State of Mine* that he intends to bring Tina Peters into the elections office as his assistant registrar. Curtis said current Assistant ROV Brent Turner will be leaving and that Peters is now available, telling the hosts, “We’re going to pull her in.”

Tuesday's agenda looks like routine summer housekeeping — but a single opioid-funded college report opens onto the $4 million the county steered to two nonprofits run by the committee members who recommended it, and the accountability policy the board promised for July that never appeared.

Before Shasta County paid nearly $2.8 million to settle former sheriff’s Capt. Pat Kropholler’s whistleblower lawsuit, its own outside investigator reviewed 15 allegations against then-Sheriff Eric Magrini.

Four were sustained. Eleven were not sustained. The report also rejected the central “toxic environment” claim and repeatedly questioned Kropholler’s credibility.

The lawsuit included later retaliation allegations that were not covered by the investigation and ended without a trial or ruling on the merits. But the county approved the settlement in a 3-2 closed-session vote that was not announced, and the public still has not received a clear explanation for why officials chose to pay $2.79 million.
