A fire chief in Alabama has been shot and killed after he stopped to help a driver who had hit a deer with their vehicle, police said.

While Chief James Bartholomew Cauthen, 54, was attempting to help the driver, an individual that resided in the area "opened fire on Chief Cauthen and the individual that struck the deer," authorities said.

Police did not immediately say why the individual may have opened fire on Cauthen and the unnamed person who struck the deer with their car. The investigation into the shooting currently remains open. https://abcnews.visitlink.me/wd7AHe

Life-threatening winds and dangerously low humidity are forecast for much of Southern California - from Ventura to San Diego - creating a significant risk of rapid fire spread.

Water Supply Unsafe to Drink in Altadena and Parts of Pasadena as Eaton Fire Compounds Contamination Concerns

The State of California has ordered all water agencies in the burn areas to prohibit drinking water consumption after the wildfire damaged local water treatment systems and infrastructure, they said.
