Anchored in the Washington, DC metropolitan area’s sophisticated technology and wine region, the Washington West Film Festival invites filmmakers, film lovers, industry professionals, and the media alike to experience a breathtaking autumn in and around one of the most influential places on earth. From historic Pennsylvania Avenue to the idyllic vineyards of Northern Virginia, Washington West is set to screen the very best films that filmmakers have to offer.
“Story can change the world” is Washington West’s mantra. Selected films - with their diverse genres and themes - are the medium from which our audiences are invited to enter the world of story themselves. This is accomplished when 100% of Washington West’s box office net proceeds are given each year to projects committed to alleviating hunger, disease, displacement, or poor education around the world.

Looking for something to do tonight? Skip out on Netflix and check out our 2018 alum film Mott Haven, the award-winning short documentary directed by Kyle Morrison.
It tells the story of a social worker named JC who creates a music studio in an old storage space located in Mott Haven Community High School—considered a “last chance” school. The students enjoy the use of the studio where they can open up about their lives by bonding through their love of hip-hop.
Mott Haven, is a neighborhood in the South Bronx that has long been viewed by other New Yorkers as a wasteland. As the neighborhood begins to redevelop, gentrification now forces the community to figure out what it truly represents.
When a student is murdered in front of the school, JC holds an after-school performance in their honor to help the community deal with their collective grief. The other students are battling their own obstacles to graduate high school in a district where less than half of kids there live below the poverty line.
An intimate portrait of a high school in the South Bronx coping with a student’s murder. Short of the Week: https://www.shortoftheweek.com/2018/07/07/mott-haven/ A…
