This was excellently well written. While the character seems brooding often times than not, the MC is fleshed out and it's reflective in the prose.

The character work was done well, and the stakes were high in places.

The magic system made sense without needless exposition, and the dream sequences were necessary to answer some little questions that came out throughout the book. There was an idolization sotospeak of a "God" on the throne and the journey led us to some interesting places. The romance didn't seem shoehorned in, but I would hazard a guess as to what might have changed had there not been one? Arranged marriage probably.

World building was vivid, and the book doesn't bore you with unnecessarily details like I normally do.

Excellent book and it's a crime I haven't read him sooner.
