Spent the morning filming in the Holmboe Conifer Forest again for a documentary project about the Northwoods Land Trust and their efforts to preserve this beautiful landscape.

Part of how they preserve it is by enlisting volunteers to help remove invasive species that threaten the ecosystem. Thanks to the folks who braved the mosquitos and muddy bogs to keep Holmboe healthy!

Join me on Sunday for the May Filmmaking Meetup!

Interested in learning more about filmmaking? The Northwoods Filmmaking Society is meeting this Sunday (5/31) at 2PM at The Hilgermann Center (25 S. Brown St.) in downtown Rhinelander! This group is free and open to anyone regardless of experience.

For this meetup, the group will work together to create a scene using back projections to create realistic environments. (Both the top and bottom images were filmed in the exact same location utilizing this technique!)

My film SCAPEGOAT is screening in Maryland this weekend at The Cecil County Independent Film Festival! If you happen to be in the area, the film is screening Friday afternoon in the 3PM block of films. And the event is free to attend. Huge thanks to CCIFF for supporting indie filmmakers!

I had the privilege of spending the morning with filmmaker Rob Nilsson exploring the natural preserve created by his grandfather, Frithjof Holmboe.

In addition to being the founder of my favorite hiking trail in Rhinelander, Holmboe was also a cinematographer who is best known for being North Dakota’s first ever filmmaker!

Thanks to the Northwoods Land Trust for their work in protecting this beautiful habitat and for bringing me on board to help tell the story of this fascinating and fantastic natural landscape through film.

Tonight (5/17) at 6PM is the world premiere of a new film I shot and edited as a part of the Wisconsin 48 Hour Film challenge we did a few weeks ago!

While I am unable to attend tonight's festivities, if you're in the Madison area and would like to show up and support our film, let me know as I may be able to get you some free tickets.

Awhile back I was chatting with some local musicians about the challenges of building your career with the current state of social media algorithms and a lack of centralized information. As a result of those conversations, we began developing a website with the purpose of providing a one-stop-shop for musicians and music lovers alike to find and support each other.

I'm excited to announce that the website is now (mostly) functional and packed with some pretty great features that help showcase all of the great live music happening in the Northwoods as well as providing an online registry of folks to connect with each other and collaborate!

If you're interested in exploring the site for yourself, you can do so by heading to www.northwoods.music to see it in action. (Please keep in mind that the site is still being developed so let us know if you encounter any issues.)

Also, if you're interested in learning more about the site in person, we're doing a "soft launch" meetup at 6:30PM on May 21st at Northland Music Center in downtown Rhinelander.
