Congratulations to this week's Member Monday Spotlight, Lareesa Fonville Willis, CEO of Early May, Inc. ! 🎉 Read about Lareesa in our interview below!
Q: What is your name, business name, and position in this business?
My name is Lareesa Fonville Willis, and I’m the CEO of Early May, a faith-infused self-care brand that helps people reconnect with who they are through intentional scents and products that uplift and affirm.
Q: How did you get started in your business? Or what inspired you to start your business?
I started Early May during one of the hardest seasons of my life. My mother was suffering from multiple chemical sensitivities, and even basic products were triggering painful reactions. At the same time, I was battling depression, anxiety, and struggling with my identity while searching for solutions. God pulled me through, and in many still, quiet moments, reminded me who I was. Early May was born out of healing, faith, and the desire to help others remember who they are in Him.
Q: What products/services do you offer?
Early May offers clean, natural self-care products: Candles, Temple Oils, Temple Wash, Temple Scrubs, Temple Lotions, and Temple Bars (soaps). We believe your body is a temple and want to encourage people to take care of it. Each scent has a name like Loved, Accepted, Enough, and Healed -because we want people to feel seen and spoken to. We also offer custom gifts, private label, and wholesale options for boutiques and wellness centers.
Q: What is one thing you’ve learned while being a business owner?
I've learned that people are looking for more than just products. They want to look good and smell good, yes - but they also crave purpose and connection. When you lead with authenticity and stay anchored in your “why,” the right people end up finding you.
Q; What is one fun fact about Early May?
We officially launched on July 4th, 2023 (on Independence Day) because creating this brand was my personal declaration of freedom: freedom to heal, dream again, and walk in purpose. Every product is a piece of that journey.
Q; How has the MBL helped you?
The Metropolitan Business League has helped me feel more connected and supported. Through their programs, events, and networking opportunities, I've been able to meet other entrepreneurs, gain knowledge, and boost my confidence as a business owner. Just knowing there's a community advocating for small businesses makes a big difference.
