Urbivor Humans usually treat other individuals that they believe are lesser than themselves as objects (women, other races, non-human animals). This is speciesism.

Urbivors advocate for ethical, compassionate living that is inclusive of culture, health, ecology, diet, lifestyle, the arts, spiritual veganism, and animal liberation. By analogy with racism and sexism, the term "speciesism" is a prejudice or attitude of bias in favor of the interests of members of one's own species and against those of members of other species. If a being suffers there can be no

moral justification for refusing to take that suffering into consideration. No matter what the nature of the being, the principle of equality requires that one's suffering can be counted equally with the like suffering of any other being. Racists violate the principle of equality by giving greater weight to the interests of members of their own race when their is a clash between their interests and the interests of those of another race. Sexists violate the principle of equality by favoring the interests of their own sex. Speciesists allow the interests of their own species to override the greater interests of members of other species. In each case, the pattern is identical. Though among the members of the human family we recognize the moral imperative of respect (every human is a somebody, not a something), morally disrespectful treatment occurs when those who stand at the power end of a power relationship treat the less powerful as if they were mere objects. The rapist does this to the victim of rape. The child molester to the child molested. The master to the slave. In each and all such cases, humans who have power exploit those who lack it. Might the same be true of how humans treat other animals, or other humans? There are differences, since humans and animals are not the same in all respects... but the question of sameness wears another face.

the *old* FB group has been revived and we need someone to take it over as primary admin. drop a message if you would like to take the wheel. it was archived a few years ago to launch another FB group that’s become overgrown and mostly unrelated. smaller groups are better and getting back to the activism roots is the goal.

it never ends. now trolls are pretending/claiming to be “vegans” or “animal rights activists” while hiding behind anonymous profiles with few or no friend connections. this particular example is sad though. if you encounter this person, it's advised that you don't engage and simply block them. they're apparently mentally unstable.

on a more interesting note, “black propaganda” is a new term for us and it fits this pretty well.

Heads up: Michelle Gow is a troll that’s pretending to be “vegan” and attacking vegans on various pages. As you can see below, it’s not a very good attempt at trolling and *he’s* failing at it, but something to be aware of.

“black propaganda”— propaganda that does not come from the source it claims to come from.

“Psychologists have used the term “meat paradox” to explain why people may emphasize their concern for animal welfare and yet eat meat, the production of which has caused suffering to nonhuman creatures. This paper explores the meat paradox through the philosophical concept ‘akrasia’. Akrasia refers to a situation, where one believes in a fact or value x, and yet acts against that fact or value. The paper uses the term “omnivore’s akrasia” to denote a state where one believes in the value of animal wellbeing and nonetheless consumes products which have caused animal suffering. The claim of the paper is that understanding of the meat paradox can be significantly broadened with the use of philosophical takes on akrasia, which underline notions such as moral reason and virtue. Another claim is that it is through enhancing one’s moral ability that both the meat paradox and omnivore’s akrasia may be reduced. Specific factors included in such enhancement are introduced and compared with ‘nudging’. In the conflicting era when the meat industry is rapidly growing on a global scale whilst attitudes toward other animals are becoming increasingly positive, exploring the phenomenon of both eating and caring for animals is of clear societal, political, and moral significance.”
