Open Source RVA -- Richmond's audio news digest -- continues to be out of action, alas, but I hope you are enjoying some of the best reruns in the news-talk business every Friday at noon on WRIR 97.3FM. For the next four weeks, starting today, we'll be rebroadcasting the Source's special "outro" episodes, where we ask the burning question: "Is there comedy in news-talk?" (It's more of a rhetorical question). Enjoin us today at noon. PS: our gal Krysti is doing much better and is recuperating nicely. Thanks for the inquiries.

THE SOURCE IS BACK! On Friday's FUN drive return of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, guest host Jack Johnson talks with Virginia Commonwealth University professor and middle east expert Dr. Faedah M. Totah on the current war between Israel and Hamas. In addition to offering thoughts about the conflict, Dr. Totah gives an overview of the history behind the founding of Israel, which she says is essential for understanding the current situation. THEN Dina Weinstein talks with Donnie Glass, proprietor of the restaurants Grisette and Jardin who recently opened the oyster-focused Beaucoup on Robinson Street. Among other things, Glass elaborates on his background and his management philosophy and discusses the challenges of operating multiple restaurants in Richmond. ALSO we give an update on the Source's beloved producer Krysti Albus and her treatment for cancer and how YOU can help her with expensive hospital bills. PLUS it's FUN drive time at WRIR. Please, support the station's locally-produced news talk and music programs by going to wrir.org and donating to the station's semi-annual fundraiser. Listener donations are how this Richmond-first radio station survives and we can't do it without you. AND JOIN US on Saturday at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery for the station's all-day WRIR 19th Anniversary Party. Hear all about at noon on WRIR 97.3FM and wrir.org.

UPDATE ON OUR GAL!! Krysti is still waiting to get put on her special cancer treatment schedule. "It's so specialized that they have to order equipment and practice," she says. Krysti hopes that her treatments can start next week and is trying very hard to keep a positive outlook. She needs our help MORE THAN EVER so I hope that everyone -- not just those in Krysti's WRIR family -- will consider a donation to her Go Fund Me campaign, which is about $3,000 shy of its goal. "It helps to know that so many people are in my corner," she says. (Thanks again to Ingi Thompson-Tate for starting the campaign.)

If you have the good fortune of knowing Krysti Albus, then you already know she is… Ingi Thompson-Tate needs your support for Krysti's "F Cancer" Relief Fund!

THE STATE OF THINGS! People have been contacting me and asking what is up with Open Source RVA. Our community news-talk show is on indefinite hiatus and will be airing reruns for the foreseeable future. Not only are we sidelined by technical difficulties in our WRIR studio, Krysti Albus, our beloved producer -- our leader, our pulse -- is very ill and currently undergoing treatment in hospital. (If you'd like to know where she is so you can send her a card or flowers, PM me and I'll let you know full details as soon as I get them). Right now Krysti needs all of our prayers and all of the positive vibrations you can send. She's a helluva lady, one of the best people I know, and she is going to beat this.

IT'S A SOURCE FOR SORE EARS! On Friday's jam-packed installment of Open Source RVA, I talk with Jeff Roll and Shane Brown, two of the film curators behind the new CinemaNiche film series at Studio Two Three. CinemaNiche will debut on March 8th (International Women's Day) with a special screening of "Sisters With Transistors," a documentary about female electronic music pioneers. I also welcome Matt Hansen, the new sole proprietor of The Camel, Richmond's longrunning "social oasis." He tells us what changes are in store for the venue and bar on West Broad, and why he's proud to give up-and-coming performers a chance to shine. AND we get a radio makeover from Richmond stylist Emmaline Chappell, who tells Dina Weinstein how to look fabulous, even on a budget and offers hints on how we can all keep our style-changing new year's resolutions. TOO MUCH SOURCE? We think you can handle it. Noon on WRIR 97.3FM and wrir.org. (-w/ Krysti Albus, Chuck Moore)

A HOME RUN! Now available on Open Source RVA's Soundcloud page, it's the one with Todd "Parney" Parnell of the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The gregarious former franchise CEO tells me why he stepped down last year to become an advisor to the team, and details the AA minor league baseball team's ambitious new plans for a ballpark. (He also busts a Doug E. Fresh rhyme and helps us perform a little "comedy" - just warning you). THEN Dina Weinstein speaks with opera singer Damien Geter, who performs in Virginia Opera's production of "Sanctuary Road," which tells the inspirational true-life stories of Richmond's Henry "Box" Brown and Portsmouth's Clarissa Davis.
