The patio outside University Pizza Company, one of Riverside’s most theatrical gothic haunts, transformed on Saturday, August 9th, into a delightfully eerie and macabre marketplace, celebrating 50 years of the movie Jaws with a distinct twist of goth flair. From 6 to 10 p.m., the courtyard near the creepy abandoned movie theater in University Village, infused with dark energy as vendors sold haunting art, macabre jewelry, and pizza so good, it’s to die for.

Downtown Riverside’s drag scene saw the return of Clash of the Titans ALL STARS at The Menagerie, kicking off this year’s competition with a packed house and a Broadway theme. A blistering free punk show kicked off at 3 PM on Sunday, August 3rd, at Packinghouse Brewery, hosted by The Minnie Green Show with sound from Pat Brown’s Punk Sound system. The sun still beat down on the brew‑yard when the first chords crashed through the PA, and by the time bands took over at 4 PM, the vibe had gone full‑tilt in that gloriously scrappy Riverside way.

Opening July 31st, Out of the Box Productions shows us the transformative power of small theatre with their latest offering, Alice By Heart. This stirring adaptation of the Alice in Wonderland story reimagines the classic tale through the eyes of teenage Alice Spencer, who has taken refuge in a tube station with her friend Alfred Hallam, who falls ill with tuberculosis. To cope, Alice leads him into the story she knows by heart, merging reality and fantasy into one immersive experience. The result is a moving, visually inventive production that uses song, dance, and layered performances to navigate grief, memory, and growing up in a world at war.
