Woman Killed, Husband Critically Injured in Mira Mesa Shooting
SAN DIEGO — A woman was killed and her husband was critically injured after a shooting inside the garage of their Mira Mesa home Friday evening, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Officers were called shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7, to the 10100 block of Summerview Court after neighbors reported suspicious activity. One report to police indicated two people were inside a garage with a large amount of blood.
When officers arrived, they found a man and woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds inside the garage. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband suffered a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was rushed by San Diego Fire-Rescue paramedics to a local trauma center in critical condition.
NBC 7 reported the woman was in her 70s and the man was in his 60s. Police confirmed the two were married and lived at the residence. Their identities have not been publicly released pending notification of family members.
SDPD’s Homicide Unit took over the investigation, with detectives processing the home, interviewing neighbors and family members and gathering surveillance video in an effort to determine exactly what happened. Police said there did not appear to be any known danger to the surrounding community.
As of Saturday, authorities had not publicly announced an arrest or released information identifying a possible suspect. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
