On the afternoon of Sept. 27, Wyoming PBS was proud to share a special 20-minute sneak peek of A LIFE OUTSIDE—a documentary in production—with a 140 people at The Grand in Lander.

The 90-minute film follows modern NOLS and EXUM Mountain Guides in the Tetons and Wind River Range, tracing their roots to legendary mountaineer Paul Petzoldt, founder of both organizations and pioneer of American mountain guiding.

The extended trailer screening was part of a NOLS-hosted film festival celebrating the 60th anniversary of the National Outdoor Leadership School.

Big thanks to NOLS, The Grand, and everyone who joined us for this inspiring afternoon! A Life Outside premieres in 2026.

Last week, the Wyoming PBS production team was on the road in Cody, capturing a fascinating discussion at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West between two best-selling authors of Western history, Paul Andrew Hutton and Peter Cozzens!

Moderated by Dr. Tim White and recorded in front of a live audience in the Center’s Coe Auditorium, the conversation explored pivotal moments, larger-than-life figures, and the enduring myths that have shaped our understanding of the American West—as well as the craft of writing and interpreting that history for modern readers.

Following the talk, audience members had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A and meet the authors during a book-signing event.

Check out this behind-the-scenes look at our team at work during the shoot and stay tuned! Once the program is edited for context and clarity, the full discussion will be available to watch on the Wyoming PBS and Buffalo Bill Center of the West YouTube channels.
